The second apron pretty much instituted a hard salary cap in the NBA and it’s pretty clearly led to mid level players receiving a pay cut.

Schroeder 3 for $45
Capella 3 for $21.5
DFS 4 for $53

Where as Kris Middleton picked up a $33 million dollar player option. No way a player of his caliber at the time of that contract is getting that kind of deal this year

Gone are the days of these guys getting $20-$25 million a year it seems like it was a few years ago. I can’t imagine how the Players Association was ok with this deal unless they didn’t really understand the consequences

The NBAPA has no power. That's why.

While I do think the CBA is not giving the crazy contracts it was, your examples aren’t very good. Capela is not a starting Center anymore. DFS is going to be old. And Schroeder is a journeyman. That actually seems like a lot to me. And the Middleton deal was made just two years after he was instrumental in their title. And they have since traded him because they also didn’t like that option.

I know, and they all would have made more money than this 3 or 4 years ago, which is the point.

Tyler Johnson (who?) got a 4 year $50 million dollar deal in 2016 and was out of the league at the end of that contract. Now you have real players getting less than that AAV a decade later with a WAY higher cap

They don’t want to practice, have to play games and they want to do a lot of dope. They traded those things for money.

Its not MLB but the NBAPA has traditionally had a decent amount of power, much more than the NFL by far.

They made a very bad deal for themselves in the last CBA

that was due to the piss poor decision by the PA to have the cap spike all at once. It was great if you contract expired that year and teams tossed out a lot of big contracts to meh players

I like it. No more superteams and it's showing who the real talent is at GM.

Yep. Capela is a name but hes just another body at this point. Same wit DFS

Since someone disagreed, here are his minutes the last 2 months of the season that he played.
