All their receivers are hurt and the QBs are freshmen

Play in a shite league, run up good numbers. Play in a league where you can't coast to 6 conference wins a year, and things get a lot harder.

They told Dillon Gabriel to take a hike in favor of an inexperienced freshman who threatened to hit the portal if he wasn’t given the starting job. Turns out he isn’t very good. That, combined with the fact that Venables isn’t a very good HC either, and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Lincoln offense only approach worked cause he luckily had baker Kyler Caleb won shootouts lost playoffs. They would have sucked in the sec then also (not this bad though)

A better question is "When in this century was Oklahoma ever considered good enough to be invited into the SEC?"

Chokelahoma was a byproduct of the "defense optional" B12 decades since the turn of the century. Lots of points scored when playing against each other in that conference, but got consistently wiped when playing the SEC.

So, when you ask "how can they have gotten so bad" you're basically implying that they were good at some point in recent history - the same recent history that definitively proves that statement to be false.

Riley's offenses covered up glaring weaknesses overall especially on defense. Oklahoma was dominant in the Big 12 where there was not a lot of really good defenses year to year. Maybe Texas would have a good squad for a year or two then slip.

The fact that Oklahoma is struggling in their first SEC year was t be expected. They have not had the Switzer type defenses really in almost 25 years . Last one was Stoops NC year. Since then they have tried to outscore their opponents for the win instead of outright stopping and shutting down offenses.

Two years ago they were 3-6 in the big 12

That is mind-bogglingly stupid. Venables should have been fired on the spot.

They should just take Riley back.

Because he's doing so great at USC? He gutted Oklahoma like Jimbo did FSU and it's not an overnight fix.

They had 10-20x more talent than anyone in big12, except Tejas

They are the new nubs, days of titles and top programs are over. Their top talent will be poached by top tier programs with nil cash.

They will be closer to Missouri, nubs, so car,etc in sec
Glory days r over, no patsies like big 8 and 12
