The Heat constructed their super team purely out of three max FAs and a bunch of ring chasers, OTOH.

how about one drafted and two sign and trades...

Durant and Kyrie to the Knicks would do it. West would be wide open. East would have Raptors (if Kawhi stays), Philly, Pacers with Dipo back, Boston (still good), and New York all contending for the finals.

This season seems like a weird time to bring this thread up. Outside of like 4(ish) teams that are tanking this year has probably been one of the most interesting seasons in a while.

East is a toss up between Raps/Bucks/Celtics/76ers and the Pacers would have 100% been in that mix before Dipo got hurt.

West has been even deeper than usual with Denver and OKC being legit teams and the bottom is competitive with Sacramento skirting with the playoff picture.

Exactly. Hell, the Pacers are actually still 3rd in the East. It's been a bloodbath in both conferences. Yes, the Warriors are still there, but they haven't absolutely run roughshod over the entire league like we've seen in years. Denver (DENVER!) has been right there with 'em and are still in 2nd.

Parity hasn't been an issue in the NBA this season.

Why do you guys want socialism in your sports?

If you want more parity then get better ownership and front office people/structure

Ding ding ding.

It pretty much boils down to Durant joining a team that legitimately doesn't need him to win a championship.

I say get rid of the cap all together. Run it closer to European soccer. Let teams get wild on contracts and watch well run organizations rise to the top.

They want The Celtics, Lakers, Knicks and a rotation of like 5 other teams to be good every year

When was the last time the Lakers and Knicks won a playoff series?

That was the case for one year. GSW don’t win the title last year or this year without him.

Agreed 100%.

Parity is boring. Every team is equally mediocre. Any team can beat each other. That's no fun. Why not just flip a coin?

I like seeing a small group of super elite teams duke it out for the title each year, with another group of "davids" trying to knock out the goliaths.

To that end, my suggestion would be going back to a 5-7-7-7 playoff format. I prefer 7-7-7-7, but the former is more conducive to upsets or at least drama from underdogs in the postseason, IMO.

I don’t consider parity to be 30 teams that are 41-41, but some more churn at the top occasionally makes it more interesting. Golden St winning their first was new, now going for 4 or 5 and 3 straight zzzzzzz

Fewer NBA Teams. I think there are one or two too many.

Shel has the first two steps right. Third step would be a huge step in the wrong direction.

Reward loyalty to a drafting team. Players can sign up to 5 years with their original drafting team. They can sign up to 4 years with a team if they were traded by their original drafting team to that new team. A player can only sign up to 3 years with a completely new team that he was not drafted by or traded to by his original drafting team.

Players' Association wouldn't like it though because that means smaller paychecks for the majority of them.

They’ll have to get used to it regardless. Once their tv deal is up in 5-6 years that figure will crash and that $1.3 billion that is distributed to the players will shrink exponentially.

Honestly, there is nothing you can do if all of the best players want to accumulate on one team (see: Golden State).

Put all the teams in NYC, Boston, Miami and California.

Those are the only places the big names and their agents want them to be.
