What ideas can you come with with that can create a more competitive and balance playing field across the board? The NFL has a fairly good balance regarding parity. Should there be a hard cap? What about a team option player franchise tag ? I understand that some of these options will likely get challenged by the NBAPA, but the owners have to come up with some ideas for competitive balance across the league because long term I think the current model isn't sustainable and eventually people will get fed up with it and just stop watching. So, what do you think should be done?

1. No Max Contracts
2. Hard Cap
3. No Draft

That's it, that the answer to your question.

But the real answer is why would they want to do that?

The league would be perfectly competitive if Durant didn't join a 73 win team that won a championship without him.

I don't want parity.

I like seeing great teams.
There are several now.

The east semis and finals and the west semis and finals and the champ series will all be highly competitive.

Hard cap and get rid of max contracts. Players' Association wouldn't like it though because that means smaller paychecks for the majority of them.

There's actually been a lot more parity this year but no one is talking about it.

In general the trend of “superteams” is bad. However, I tend to blame the LeBron-Wade-Bosh Heat over this rather than the Warriors or Celtics.

The Celtics traded for Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett.

The main piece the Warriors got through frickery was Durant. The rest of the pieces were drafted by them or were traded to them with the exception of Iggy, I believe.

The Heat constructed their super team purely out of three max FAs and a bunch of ring chasers, OTOH.

The NBA doesnt want parity.

They want The Celtics, Lakers, Knicks and a rotation of like 5 other teams to be good every year

While this is true so far, we all know how this season is going to end barring a catastrophic injury. The parity is going to be who loses to Golden State this year instead of it being for sure CC and Cleveland.

Yeah. This season seems like a weird time to bring this thread up. Outside of like 4(ish) teams that are tanking this year has probably been one of the most interesting seasons in a while.

East is a toss up between Raps/Bucks/Celtics/76ers and the Pacers would have 100% been in that mix before Dipo got hurt.

West has been even deeper than usual with Denver and OKC being legit teams and the bottom is competitive with Sacramento skirting with the playoff picture.

Hard cap
No exceptions to any caps. No max contracts, no "current team can offer more", etc.

Big Hairy Thought: Contract down to 24 teams.

It "started" and was 100 times worse in the late 60s...late 50s to be exact.

Agreed 100%.

Parity is boring. Every team is equally mediocre. Any team can beat each other. That's no fun. Why not just flip a coin?

I like seeing a small group of super elite teams duke it out for the title each year, with another group of "davids" trying to knock out the goliaths.

If Suntiger ran the NBA:

1) Hard cap.
2) Contraction of two teams.
3) Voidable final year/s of a contract. (Would include partial buyout for player and dead money towards cap for team)
4) Allow high schoolers to be eligible for the draft. But if not drafted, they are not eligible for draft for three years.
5) Profit!
