I have an idea. Let's make the NBA playoff 1st round a best of 7.

Wait, What's that? It has been done already? Really? Ok, Nevermind...

people say this, but in the past 25 years, the "accidental champion" is quite rare. the lowest seed to win since the 1988 Manning and the Miracles team was a 4 seed. And that happened one time. Every other time, a top ten team has won the national team. And given the volatile nature of basketball, any team in the top ten has a good claim at being the best team int he nation.

It's rough in each individual match, but the cream tends to rise to the top over the course of the tourney. It takes a real good team to win six in a row against the top 64 teams in the country. All in all, given that there are roughly 330 hoops teams, MM does a GREAT job of crowning a champ.

Should be 64 teams, always and forever.

the people who say that shite dont know anything about college basketball. ive had this argument on here before with them. the worst team in the 2000s to win the national title was uconn as a 3 seed and they were extremely hot at the end of the year and had the best player in the country. and they are THE WORST team of the past like 15 years to win it. every other team has been better than a 3 seed that had the best player in the country on their team. that's a fantastic job of crowning a champ.

a worse than a 3-seed means out of the "top 12"

that's pretty fricking bad to have to qualify it in that manner

a 2-seed is 5-8, which is bad in itself. it should never get below that. never. the fact that it's happened once is terrible

the fact that a 1 doesn't win it the vast majority of the time shows you that there is a major flaw in the determination format

there is a reason we're stuck with 1-game series in football (can only play 1 game per week). there is no excuse for basketball, unless you're trying to push volatility...like march madness

no, because no one ever does it (anymore). the worst team to have done it (in a relevant time frame) was still a top 10 team.

no, it absolutely does not. the differences between the top 10 teams is often times marginal as shite. those teams are almost always 1 game away from being a 1 seed themselves. they go on to win the tourney because they are just as good as the top teams. what team that has won the national championship in the past 10-15 years do you have an issue with? which ones do you not think were the best teams? there are a couple that are arguable, but none are overwhelmingly not the best by any stretch of the imagination.

it should be an 8-team playoff with 3-game series or a 4-team playoff with 5-game series obviously this will never happen, but if we want to make the tournament a legit one, this is how you do it

Legit? There are something like 350 teams in DI and you propose a format with only eight making it to postseason as a way of making it more legit.

Sounds like a great way to destroy college basketball because you want it to be more like the NBA.

Yeah we should determine the champ based on who has the prettiest jersey like they do in FBS football right?

Protect them if they have an off-game? That's ridiculous.

If you get bounced early in the tournament due to an "off game", tough shite...

The only change I would make is to ban dome stadiums from hosting games. Play the games in basketball arenas and not huge domes with bad sightlines and a stale atmosphere.

I read somewhere that because of the NCAA's 70K+ capacity rule, only a handful of cities have the required facilities to actually host a Final Four.

Is that really a rule? That would limit it to I think Houston, Indy, Dallas, New Orleans, Detroit and Atlanta. You could probably add Minneapolis when they get the new Vikings stadium built.

I've done this in softball tournaments a few times and it's a bitch. I could never imagine doing it in basketball which is much more physically demanding.
