On WWL Capt. from the police dept said the ref tried to throw the security guy out for not moving the crowd back enough and face to face with him so the security guy arrested him.

Exactly what the referees said to get arrested is not available yet, but apparently, the referee tried to throw a police officer out...

...and the ensuing argument got very heated.

For those asking.. yes, the referees were arrested in the middle of the third quarter. Caused a roughly 25 minute delay.

Refs were charged with public intimidation

Nice. Classic dick cop charge there. Right up there with public intox and remaining after forbidden. Cops don't have to prove shite and it's just their word (lie) that's needed for cuffs

I have no doubt that the refs were acting like jackasses but this is the type of thing that only the covington police could be involved in.

Well, if anything the cops could have handled this AFTER the game. Booking a ref for a public intimidation charge during the middle of the game? W/o having been there it sounds like they probably could have waited and settled up afterwards with a summons.

I normally would agree, but i have seen Covington PD in action. I would bet anything the cops instigated this.

It's probably an old feud that goes back to the days when the cops and refs were students at Covington High.

Exactly. I'm sure the refs were being retards, but the cop is supposed to be the bigger man. I'm not sure how a sports official trying to throw a person off the field/sideline is a crime though, cop or not.

Even if they did, which I doubt, the refs should not have let it get to the point of them getting freaking arrested ... Bunch of idiots

They said on the radio that they are trying to figure out what to do with the refs that finished the game. Apparently the two that were arrested drove the carpool from nola.

I hear what you are saying but you don't have to do much at all to get arrested in Mandeville/Covington.
