I need to fix my mistake earlier it is the 10th round of the first Bowe Holyfield fight that is one of the greatest rounds I have seen.
The Hagler Hearns round 3 may have as good as the first round, because if Hagler does not end it the fight is over. They would have stopped it due to the cut.
The Pizza Hut commercial they made after the Hagler Hearns fight was the best...
Hagler was asked what Hearns was doing and he says "eating tomato soup"

I like to go in a different direction for my favorite rounds of boxing.
Clay / Liston - Round 1 - 1964
I love this round so very very much. Cassius Clay was a 7-1 underdog in this fight and if you thought he would even make it out of the first round, your opinion was the minority view. Liston was like an early Mike Tyson or George Foreman but to an even greater degree. No heavyweight before or since has ever moved the way Clay moves in this round. It may be because he was scared to death of getting hit by Liston, but it focking worked. If he gets hit by Liston even once, I don't see it. He comprehensively dominates Liston and hits him whenever he wants to while showing the ability to complete evade each and every punch Liston has in his arsenal.
Joe Louis was working the television broadcast for this fight and he says after the first round that it's one of the greatest rounds he's ever seen and that Clay "completely outclassed Liston". And Joe Louis couldn't stand Cassius Clay.
The rest of the fight goes in a similar but less furious manner. What Clay does in round 1, though, is well past mere sport or athletics. It's art at the highest level.
Ali / Foreman - Round 1 - 1974
Foreman is the baddest man on the planet. Ali had fought Frazier twice, lost one of them, and won the other in a decision. Foreman knocked Frazier down 7 times. Ali had fought Ken Norton twice, lost one of them, and won a close decision in the other. Foreman knocked Norton out in the second round.
Ali has talked incessantly for months on end about how he's gonna dance and dance and dance. He doesn't. He comes out in the first round and tries to knock Foreman out. He throws 14 right hand leads as hard as he can throw a punch and lands several of them. They don't knock Foreman out. They don't even hurt Foreman a little. They just make him angry and he stalks Ali in an all-out rage throwing puches at whatever he sees.
Ali realizes after this round that he can't keep up this pace the entire fight and that the ring mats are too soft too even attempt dancing. He changes up his strategy and does rope a dope the rest of the fight. But round 1 is not a rope a dope round, and it's my favorite of a fight that I have high on my list of favorites.

For those of you who love brutal boxing slugfests, be sure to tune into HBO on April 18 for Matthysse-Provodnikov. You'll be glad you did.
As for the OP, I think that was the GOAT super fight because it was built up as something huge and it actually lived up to it plus more. Those guys were going for the kill.
I think there have been better fights, but not on that level.

Imo, that's the best fight in the last 20 years. That entire fight was fought in the middle of the ring with both guys just wearing each other out. I've watched that fight at least 10 times in its entirety. If you ever get a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it.

The whole fight was great. All three rounds. Watched it at Fred's. That Ward Gatti fight was off the charts to.

Round 8 of Matthew Saad Muhammad-Yaqui Lopez 2 was pretty awesome. Just wanted to give that one a mention.

Matthew Saad Muhammad is so undervalued as he was a Jr Heavy and at the time Heavy and Middle were King.
I always thought Virgil Hill got a raw deal in the media also, even as an Olympic team member.

If Steward would have told him to run he wins the fight. The fight was over after that round. Haglers cut would've stopped it. Geno and Pat Petrocelli had no clue how to stop it either.
Hearnes had the boxing skills to just dance away, but for whatever reason Manny didn't say anything.

That's what I love about older fighters.....they went for the finish. And they were aggressive against their toughest competition.
Today the top fighters want to avoid each other and when they do face off, both usually try to play it safe and win on points. If they get ahead on the cards, they try to run their way to a decision victory.
They were a different breed back then and it made for better fights/events.

That whole era of little men was great
Pacquiao-Morales 3x
Barrera-Morales 3x
Pacquiao-Marquez 4x
Pacquiao-Barrera 2x
Marquez-Barrera
It's a shame Morales and Marquez never stepped in the ring together. What's funny is Marquez priced himself out of that fight and then went fight Chris John instead....and lost.

Hearns though had been beaten in a big fight before by going after someone.
He dances and jabs Leonard in 14 and 15 he wins (or should have). But it being in Vegas Leonard never lost in Vegas, because of I believe he paid judges.
