Not that I can recall but I doubt it. Historically most schools have opened their seasons with tuneup games so opening weekend didn’t have great games.

Prime example of Name matchup, nothing more as they mostly are entering the season.... We are seduced by laundry in anticipation.

Alabama 52, USC 6.

I know you cry about everything Alabama but that USC team finished 10-3 and won the Rose Bowl

Absolutely the best time of year. Cool weather. Gumbo. Red beans.. LSU football. Hunting

You just described November, not the start of college football.

I think it really depends on 4 new OL for Texas against 4 new DL for OSU as starters. Usually defense has advantage on offense early which could be good for OSU but Texas’ OL is talented as heck

They finished 3rd in the AP poll that year. Clemson and Alabama were just light years better than everyone. Ole Miss was the only team that Alabama played all season that didn't get beat by double digits until Clemson walked it off on the last play in Tampa

Good point. I should’ve said best opening weekend and I listed a few. Overall, a great weekend of CFB!

I actually didn't like it when Michigan played a big game like ND in the opener because I felt like they always make a lot of mistakes in the first game and aren't used to getting hit hard, etc. If they lost a big game with a few weeks under their belt, so be it. But, Michigan just always seemed so vulnerable in the opener. The flip side, I guess, is everything is new for the other team, too. LSU fans surely understand my mindset after all of the trouble in opening big games. All of that said, it's great for fans. I did enjoy the heck out of Fla/Mich at Jerryworld when I went. The $50 double cocktails hurt, though.

Since 2000 we have home and aways with:

Arizona
Arizona State
Syracuse
Pitt (twice)
Miami (OH)
Northern Illinois (*Away game was at Soldier field)

I suppose that's alright for a middling team with no offense like Iowa.

Ohio State has had H&Hs with:

North Carolina St
Texas
Miami
USC
Virginia Tech
Oklahoma
TCU
Oregon (pre B1G)
Texas

And Bama and UGA on deck
