Has anyone ever been drafted straight out of high school and then went straight into the upcoming seasons lineup

David Clyde did... and it did not turn out well.
(His first start turned out well... his career did not.)

Twenty days after pitching his last high school game, Clyde won his first ever Major League start before over 35,000 fans in Arlington Stadium, the first sellout in stadium history.

Clyde's unsuccessful career made him the "poster-boy" for bringing up young players.[2] In his autobiography White Rat his first big league manager, future Baseball Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog stated that he was often forced to leave Clyde in the game much longer than usual because fans wanted to see the 18-year-old "phenom" pitch. It led to Clyde's arm burning out at an early age, Herzog argued.[13] In a 2003 interview with The New York Times, Herzog criticized Bob Short, stating that "(Short) sure wasn't going to send him down without getting some people in the ballpark to see him. The kid should have gone to the minors after two starts."[9] He also said that Clyde "was one of the best young left-handed pitchers I've ever seen." Former teammate Tom Grieve said that keeping Clyde in the roster was the "dumbest thing you could ever do to a high school pitcher."

Crazy that it hasn’t happened since the70s

Closest I could remember was Doc Gooden going from single A straight to the New York Mets in a year and making his MLB debut at 19.

He wasn't drafted, though.

Bit of a CSB, but David Clyde used to teach pitching lessons at the hitting cages where my team practiced up off 249/1960 (we were like 9 at the time). We clearly had no idea who he was but all the dads were starstruck, so they'd make us go sit by him and listen. Some of the shite he said in hindsight was so crazy.
I vividly remember him showing a kid two concentric circles and said "if it takes the same time to get around each circle, which one is moving faster?" Obviously the outside one, so his thought process was if your arm action was as long as possible you'd throw harder. Some of the kids he taught had the weirdest fricking windups

Joe Nuxhall, age 15, made his debut while still in high school, he had to get a note from his principal.

Obviously extenuating circumstances going on in 1944, but that is absolutely wild.

Not crazy at all. Making the jump to the big leagues without even a brief minor league stint is unnecessary and probably doing more harm than good

In 2010 Mike Leake became the 21st player to go straight from the draft to major leagues without a minor league stop. Reds drafted him out of Arizona State.

The reason i made this thread was watching that draft documentary where Jon Elway says that Steinbrenner said they would take him straight from Stanford into the lineup if they drafted him

I think Gordon Beckham did the same thing. College to the majors with no minor league stint.

Beckhman played for the Barons & the Knights prior to being called up

Bob Horner is the only player to go directly to MLB (Braves)and win a Rookie of the Year Award.
