What if they were actively misled by their employer, the NFL, who did everything they could to discredit and suppress information that was detrimental to their bottom line?
If you don't realize someone hitting you over and over again is going to hurt you, then you probably had brain damage anyway.

i played high school football in the 90's, and while everybody knew football was dangerous in a general sense, there was absolutely no conception that concussions were as bad for you as we later found out.
If the NFL knew and suppressed this information, and i'm not saying that they did but if they did, that's really terrible on a number of levels.

Hamza Abdullah ?@HamzaAbdullah21 1h
How many former players have to kill themselves before you guys fricking realize, that they're pushing us to it.
Hamza Abdullah ?@HamzaAbdullah21 1h
frick you NFL and NFLPA for sitting back and watching all this shite happen. Save the fricking players.

Astute analysis there...
Clearly you have all the necessary info to draw an informed conclusion on the topic.

What a dipshit. For someone claiming to be so enlightened and fighting for social justice, you'd expect him to shy away from referring to an insanely lucrative and optional profession as a "slave trade". Imagine what his ancestors would think about him complaining about this by comparing it to slavery.

In what year did the NFL "come clean"? What level of honesty exonerates them? Now that current players know the dangers, can they go back to hitting the shite out of each other?

As is yours in assuming these players have no fault in this situation.

Come on, man. I know you don't need someone to tell you that hitting your head over and over is going to have a good outcome.

I agree. They should tell them whatever info they have, but these players don't need to be so naive. Also, this guy came out and said he knew the risks while he was playing. He knew what could happen to him.

Because it's common sense that hitting your head over and over again will eventually hurt you. If your boss told you to go ahead and hit your head against the wall and that it would cause no permanent damage, would you believe him?

I mean you can say this all you want but there was no conception at all of the possibility of the kinds of effects that we now know. NOBODY, not the coaches, not the players, not the trainers, not anybody would have ever dreamed of something like that at the time. It was just a different era. You need to understand that.

The people that we are talking about have played recently. Not 20-30 years ago. I guess I can understand the older ones not knowing as much, but the more recent ones knew. He even said they knew.

Over the last 5-8 years, sure. Before that, no way.

I'm not really buying that, but like I said, we are talking about the guy who wrote all of these tweets. He played within the time frame you are talking about. He knew all of the risks and still decided to play.
I'm not doubting the NFL lied and covered up stuff in the past. I would say it is probable that they did, but this guy knew.

I think the major complaint is that teams were pushing injured players back out to the field, regardless of their condition. The players are asserting that they had to choose between playing injured or getting cut. I would despise my boss as well if he held my job over my head for getting injured while at work.

Now that is a legit gripe. Some of the rest of it? Not so much.

Well like in any lawsuit, extra assertions are added to make the argument stick better.

knowing theres a risk, and knowing what the risk truly amounts to are widely different.
additionally thinking the nfl is going to hedge some of that with long term care that you arent receiving is also probably pretty frustrating.
what this guys circumstances are, i really dont have a clue, beyond him being real fightin angry today.

"Every player understood the risks of playing football, and we did it, and would do it over again"
So then why are you bitching?!
Seriously, these players are the biggest bunch of tards. Wanna know why I don't work as a coal miner? Because there's a high probability I will have complications later on.
Don't want concussions, or physical injuries? Don't take a job where the main portion of it is GETTING frickING HIT ON CONSISTENT BASIS.
Gah

Oh look another millionaire the media will tell me to feel sympathy for.
It really is sad how all of these players had no other options in life. Congress should force the NFL to start a Walmart greeter opt out program to save these guys careers
