Did Gritty Punch a 13 year old Boy in the back?

quote:

But after waiting in line for about an hour behind dozens of fans to get to Gritty, something shocking happened, according to Greenwell.

quote:

Gritty punched Brandon in the back, Greenwell claims.

In Greenwell’s telling, Brandon playfully patted the mascot on the head after the photo was taken. As Brandon walked away, Gritty got out of his chair, “took a running start," and “punched my son as hard as he could," Greenwell said Wednesday.

quote:

About a month after the alleged punch, as Comcast Spectacor and Greenwell couldn’t come to an agreement, Greenwell reported the incident to Philadelphia police. The matter is being investigated by South Detectives Division. A police spokesperson on Tuesday described the case as an alleged "physical assault” that occurred “during a photo shoot with 13 year old white male and Flyers mascot Gritty.”

Philadelphia mascots are no strangers to allegations of physical attacks. The Phillie Phanatic was dubbed “the most-sued mascot in the majors” in a 2002 study published in Cardozo Law Review.

There are two scenarios:

1) It didn't actually happen

2) It was in retaliation to something the kid did

Not to get all lawyer-y, but that's not assault.

And nobody else saw this happen, huh?

Somehow, I don’t feel like this is the most accurate account of what happened.

I patted a Mickey Mouse on the head one time when I was a kid thinking nothing and they grabbed my arm very tightly. It made me think it’s probably pretty annoying / painful to have the mascot head banged around like that.

Sounds like they didn’t get the payout they wanted so they went to the police.... if this boy wasn’t injured, and they fabricated an exaggerated story, there should be repercussions for these people

#teamgritty on this one. Gritty is great.

The dad took his kid to a chiropractor? Please. They are supposed to be HOCKEY fans, not soccer fans.

And the team tried to accommodate the sleazy dad and "injured" kid with special perks to resolve their complaint. No dice - the plaintiffs wanted more.

F the kid and his dad.

Former college mascot, and yes, it is extremely annoying. Stood in front of a student section, and this one guy constantly did it. Because of the layout of the stadium, I couldn't really do much about it. As for the grabbing of the arm, we were taught that grabbing a little harder than normal or a slight pinch on the back of the arm was a good way to tell a kid to stop doing something. It doesn't really hurt anyone, and generally the kid will stop doing whatever they were.

If Gritty did anything to the kid, he probably hit him in the head harder than the dad is saying.
