Most painful loss was losing in the championship game the following year to West Jefferson 17-0 (I think). West Jeff had a running back that was 50 pounds heavier than anybody on the Lumberjacks and he was impossible to bring down. 17-0 doesn't sound that bad but it was complete domination by West Jeff.

I was at that game, y’all kicked the shot out of a pretty good EJ team earlier

1981 EDW vs Curtis. This was the first year the high school playoffs were in the Superdome.

Curtis went up 21-0 in the 1Q. The final score was 21-17. We drove down inside the 10 yard line but the clock ran out. Gut wrenching loss!

Not LA, but the school I went to in GA went 8-2 and still missed the playoffs after losing their final regular season game on a last second FG. The region was divided into divisions for some reason so only the top 2 from each one went instead of the top 4.

Do they have 12 minute quarters there like in GA?

Belle Chasse

Got spanked by Parkview in 2001 (I think) State Championship. Up something like 14-0 in the first quarter. Lost something like 63-14.

Won the 2009 state championship betting Shaw (our only regular season loss) and knocking off Bastrop, the three time defending state champion led by Rueben Randle.

Beat #1 Bastrop as a #12 seed 35-34... it was legit below 20° That night. And then beat Shaw the next week for our first state title.

Even if we win the state championship, the Acadiana game might still be the greatest victory due to the symbolic nature of it. Even high school football gurus like choupiquesushi have called it one of the greatest games they've ever seen

That's true, I had forgotten about that part. We played East Jeff then West Jeff back-to-back I think. We were pretty confident going in.

I was there too; it was brutal. I'm not sure Bogalusa ever crossed the 50 yard line.

your qb got hurt very early in that game - huge knock.

wj ran wicked wishbone..QB was very good too.

I was a visiting team ball boy in bogalusa in 1972.. much fun

2014 vs Ponch 2nd round. Moved our linebacker to quarterback in week 10 and beat maybe the most talented team in history of 5A.

Most talented in the history of 5A? What makes you say that? I appreciate that you think that highly of our 2014 team, but I don't know if we were that good. Certainly not on the level of 1998 West Monroe or 1999 Evangel. I don't even know if we were as good as 2006 Catholic, though we did play to our talent level more than they did. If anything, it might've been the most talented 5A team post-split.

St Thomas Aquinas here as well.

Greatest win was either our first playoff game in program history when we went to over time against Catholic New Iberia. It went to overtime and we scored first. They scored on only a couple plays, and we blocked the extra point to win. The next year we went up to Coushatta and they were ranked like 4th in 2A. It was rainy and cold, and we beat the shite out of them and stopped their high powered offense.

In terms of worst losses, our first Quarterfinal game in the program we played Iota. They beat us 27-0. We just couldn't do anything to them. We never got close to sniffing the end zone. They had our Wing T offense to less than 200 yards. We averaged over 400 a game that year I think considering we passed like twice a game.

Acadiana’s greatest win is tough, there are a few, excluding state championships: 1999 vs Shaw 1st round. We had absolutely no business winning that game. 2006 vs CHBR semi’s. My goodness what a loaded team 2007 vs West Monroe 2nd round. Finally got the monkey off of our back and ended their little tv show. Having ESPN cameras at your practice all week sure does motivate you. 2010 vs STM semi’s. Revenge curb stomping. Whooped those catholic boys so bad they controlled their enrollment and dropped a whole classification. Still wont schedule Acadiana. 2014 vs Ponch 2nd round. Moved our linebacker to quarterback in week 10 and beat maybe the most talented team in history of 5A. I think the winner is 2010 STM Worst loses is not nearly as hard: 2017 vs Hahnville semis, ended in OT on a 2pt conversion. Davidsons last game…wish he would’ve retired on top. 2007 vs destrahan finals. My last game ever, had a crazy talented jordan jefferson led desty team on their toes when a muffed punt ended things.

All good pics but I’d add 2009 Acadiana losing to Catholic in the playoffs after being up 28-0 in the first half. The second half Acadiana gives up 4 fumbles and 5 touchdowns and loses. That was a tough pill to swallow. I thought they had a chance to win it that year and considering how they did in 2010 with a lot of the same players, they may have. Tough tough loss.

Worst 1992 Salmen lost to Broadmoor, State semi finals

Best 1994 Salmen beat John Curtis for the state title

It’s absolutely true. They are terrified to ever have to go to 5A/D1. They also refuse to schedule acadiana.

It’s true. They haven’t played since 2011. Best STM team ever in 2010 gets pummeled in the semis and they took the loss super super hard. They had already walloped Acadiana earlier in the year by multiple touchdowns (which shows how good they were because Acadiana was insanely good) but also goes to show that Acadiana is a different animal in the playoffs. STM did play Acadiana the year after as they were still in district but they dropped down shortly after and haven’t played Acadiana again after that.

Went to the same HS as O.

Bad - Played a second round playoff game against a much bigger and better Barbe team in 2004 (I think), scored on the first play of the game, then proceeded to get destroyed for the rest of it.

Good - I've been to 1 game after graduating high school. It was against the East St. John Perrilouxs. Somehow, someway, we kept up and squeaked out a win. It was Perriloux's last high school game and only our second win of the year. He sure was something to see back then.

Edit: Playoff game was 2003

Remember SL winning state Bobby Hebert's SR. year after a great semi game against Shaw. My schools only win that year was beating SL in district play.

I watched this game from the corner of the end zone on the visitor’s side. Acadiana controlled the first half and then our coaches decided to let Pooka Williams be Pooka. That 2-pt conversion looked to be completely stuffed by the Rams’ D until Pooka cut back and took it the opposite direction. One of the most entertaining high school football games I’ve ever been to. That go us over the Acadiana hump….but Hahnville is still stifled by the Zachary hump now.

Greatest Loss: Easily Barbe in the semifinals. WM up 27 points with 5 minutes left and lost by 1 point.

One of the greatest comebacks in sports history. West Monroe was stout as usual, dominated most of the game. Any other high school team probably loses, but that particular group was battle tested from birth, and had no quit in them. They were special on offense and were fun to watch when they were on fire.
