I watch nearly every Houston game I can promise you nobody who watches a fraction of that many can tell me how good his teammates are better than I can.

Everything thing I'm saying is backed up by multiple well respected people who cover NBA for a living. And do it well enough to be rewarded with MVP votes. Writers With no ties to Houston or harden. If you can't accept that it's on you.

That's a great coincidence that read from so many well respected guys, and all are voting on harden when roughly 1/2 to 2/3 will be voting for Westbrook. Absolute crazy statistics anomaly

I'm not as worried about MVP as other people. It's a voted award. Lebron should have won more. Kobe should have an extra one. Wins are more important to me and hopefully to the players.
I grew up a Houston fan but I'd honestly give the award to Kawhi. He doesn't have equal offensive stats but he's a top 10 scorer with only two turnovers a game and his defense changes games. He makes guys like Lebron and Harden work their butts off. The guy is efficient on offense and a game changer on defense. The entire top 4 is awesome but I feel like his true value doesn't show up the same way on the stat line. The guy is incredible.

quote:Exactly. So if you're going to talk about how well his team is when he's on the court, or how many wins they have, then you can't give that all to him when it's also largely a function of a quality team.
Hardens team is much better so his teammates will have a higher BPM bc of how it's calculated.
quote:But then look at the Real Plus Minus, which isn't as favorable to Westbrook. He's still ahead of Harden, and more importantly, Westbrook's teammates are way worse than Harden's.
Westbrook is such a stat hog (we've all seen the Reddit article) that his teammates BPM will be lower than it should be bc of his rebounding
quote:Sure. And Westbrook averaged 11.8 assists when he had a <40 usage and only 9.1 with >40 usage.
3. We've seen that the thunder are MUCH better when Westbrook has a usage below 40%. So his team is better when he does less.
Thunder are 26-12 when Russ has a usage rate below 40%. They are 20-22, when he's at 40% or above
But in those games with >40 usage, his teammates shot 3% lower from the field, and turned the ball over 1.7 more times per game.

quote:What is your point here? His teammates are good, and he obviously makes them better like all great players.

That being said, of the four major MVP candidates (LBJ, Westbrook, Harden, and Leonard), only Leonard had a better team around him this season, which is why they won the most games.
In fact, if you take out the MVP candidates, the win totals directly correspond to the quality of their teams.

I don't know why everyone says Westbrook's teammates are so much worse than Harden. Harden doesn't have a great cast either.
Neither have a second or third star like San Antonio, Cleveland, or Golden State.
I like what the rockets have done with that cast but it's going to be very hard to just out bomb everyone from three when they have more talent and the defenses get tougher.

The talent level of the teams is not far apart, but Houston's talent fits much better into their roles, than OKC's talent. Dipo is probably more talented than anyone on Houston's roster (outside of Harden), but he is not a good fit with Westbrook.

But more importantly the difference is in coaching/the system Houston has.

What % chance does Harden have to win mvp at this time?

the comparison is OKC v. HOU, not either v the field
i mean you could argue that OKC theoretically has more potential on their roster, but it's clear by almost every measure that HOU had, by far, a superior team around their MVP candidate this year

Got a few more pertinent things going on today it may be tmrw before I can get you an update bro.

This thing still is going?

Had the trip planned before we knew the date of the new award show. Not that I would schedule a vacation around the NBA MVP show anyways
come on bro

I don't go round for round with you on this board, but it does seem like you will be wrong and have a significant learning experience shortly. because Russ is gonna run away with the MVP.

To be fair very few if any posters are equipped to go round for round with me. On most occasions it's a first or second Rd TKO in my favour...admittedly I have too much in my arsenal.

quote:Exactly. We can argue in hypotheticals and say if you do a draft, Adams and Dipo probably go first, that's true.
i mean you could argue that OKC theoretically has more potential on their roster, but it's clear by almost every measure that HOU had, by far, a superior team around their MVP candidate this year
But when you look at the facts, the data, you see the HOU team supporting cast as a whole was MUCH better, largely due to system/coaching.
