make a serious thread turn to shite.
I play with some double digit handicaps and some +2s that all average in the 280+ range off the tee. The +2s are in the fairway much more, hit better iron shots and can score around the green. The double digit guys can't do that, but they can still bomb it off the tee.

I'm probably the 2nd longest guy with the driver that plays at my club. there is guy who is like 26 years old and was a pitcher at Rice. 6'4" and long arms and he and I trade blows sometimes. I think he may have me by a few yards when he hits his best. There is a another guy who slightly shorter than me but he is a 1 HC and he never misses the fairway. I would kill to have his game.
There are at least a dozen guys I play with routinely that can hit more than 1 300 yard driver per round. its not that uncommon

What I find is that you have a guy who hits his driver 245 yards 98% of the time. He hits a legit 300 yard drive once every 2 or 3 rounds of golf and tells people he can drive it 300. Technically he can; when he hits the center of the face of his driver; and the fairway is slanted down hill; with the wind; 1/35 drives.
This is correct and the main problem. My "average" drive is probably 255ish, because I have a problem where I'll hit a massive duckhook one out of every five or six drives and it goes about 200 yards and way left. I normally have a drive or two per round at about 300 yards. Been dry recently and I hit one about 315 at Oak Harbor. Pretty much anyone with a swing speed above 90 can hit a 300 yard drive on occasion. It's really nothing to be proud of.
I really doubt there are more than a couple people on this entire site that legitimately "average" 280. Most people who say they do are not counting their occasional 220 yard derp.

I've got a tradition.
On the 18th tee box I tell my partner that I'm just gonna swing as hard as I can. I'm talking coming out of your shoes hard.
Sometimes the ball goes 300. Sometimes I whiff and we both have a good laugh.

quote:Yeah, most of the guys I was referencing that I play with that hit it long were either college golfers or college baseball or basketball players. Although I played in the club championship last year with a 50+ year old guy that could still bomb it. He ended up finishing third behind a former college golfer and a current college golfer.

I was just f'ing with you over your post in the Heat/Pacers game thread last week. "LeBron haters/leghumpers have turned this thread to shite"

I can hit the ball a shite ton. Im longer than 99 percent of the people I play with and only hit maybe 1 or 2 drives a round over 300. I would guess my average to be about 275.
My irons have been really long this year, and its becoming a problem. I airmailed a green with a 4 iron from 230 out last Saturday.

what kind of irons do you play? I used to have that problem with my old game improvement nikes with heavy cavity backs. the variaton in distance on well struck shots was sometimes 20 years. Now that I have AP2s fitted for me the distances are very consistent on well struck shots

The same i3's I've had since HS. It seems to be consistent from shot to shot, I'm just hitting them further than I have in years past. The biggest problem is probably selecting the right club with the added distance. After I get that figured out it will be the new gap between my wedges. I used to be 150-125-100-60 now I'm probably 160-130-110-90. All of a sudden I can crush my 60 degree.

Your grooves are shot. You're catching fliers from anywhere and everywhere because the ball isn't spinning as much

quote:That is the advantage us tall guys have. However, those short guys don't understand how much harder it is to be accurate when you are taller and have long arms. Similar to the difference in accuracy between a driver and a wedge.
I can hit the ball a shite ton.
Extra length generally produces extra distance, but also makes accuracy much more difficult.

I'm 5'7" and am a rare shorty that can bomb it but I am strong and have great explosion. I'm built like JB Holmes

A better question for many of these "long" hitters is what's your average score. Long and wrong doesn't usually lend itself to scoring.

Im a 9

I shoot between 80-88 most days. occasional 78 or 79 and occasional 92
Posted on 5/24/13 at 10:29 am to double d
I typically score in the upper 70's to low 80's. I can get into the low 70's or low 90's on occasion as well.
