That's kind of what I thought, I'm a short hitter but usually keep it around 82 by relying on short game and putting. Of course I'm 52 and out of shape. Played ball in college at 205 now up to 265 but never was a long hitter.

my trackman yardages are avg 263-268 carry total dist 275-280. I have played rounds with web.com players and they can swing it. On avg they were about 20 yds ahead of me with woods but we hit our irons the same distance. I am a digger/diver and compress and strike the ball very well.

I typically score in the upper 70's to low 80's. I can get into the low 70's or low 90's on occasion as well.

Friendly rules?
Me and partner play strict USGA rules. Last month my ball was behind a fallen tree trunk from a recent tornado that hit west Shreveport. Weighed about 300 pounds. I could have done unplayable lie and taken penalty. I moved the trunk off to the side and played the ball where it lied.

Two lessons:

a. Playing by the rules creates innovation.
b. Weight lifting helps your golf game.

No. Straight up. There is usually some kind of small wager involved when I play, so we play USGA and/or course rules. We play the ball down, take stroke and distance when applicable, put everything out, etc.

Most decent courses will have that cleared or will have it marked as ground under repair.

Question from yesterday, my friend hits a 250 yard drive 100 yards OB off the tee. Does he re-tee and hit 3 or does he drop approximately where it went OB?

rules say to re-tee, a lot of people just take a drop to keep the round moving

OB as in white stakes/line or were there red stakes/line? White means re-tee, red = lateral hazard, i.e. drop where it entered

A person I played with one time tried to convince me you can ground your club in a fairway bunker but not a green side bunker...
That's pretty dumb, and this guy was a really good player - 3-5 handicap. Wonder how long he's been doing this

I mean he routinely hits a few drives over the trees that run down the side of most fairways.

If it is really OB, then you are supposed to re-tee, but if there are red lines/stakes, its a lateral hazard. If no lines, ask someone at the clubhouse, but generally woods/natural areas on the edges of the course or people's property is marked OB.

A better question for many of these "long" hitters is what's your average score

Good point ... I'm short of the tee (avg about 250 or so) but beat guys I play with who are 70 and 80 yards ahead of me off the tee. It's all about getting the ball into hole

Well, it depends on what you are actually referring to. There are some sandy/dirt/rock areas that are "waste areas" in which you can ground your club. However, if it is a bunker, then no grounding.

OB (white steaks or referenced on the score card), re-tee and hits 3. Lateral hazard (red stakes), drop within two club lengths no closer to the hole from where it entered the hazard or keeping the line with where it entered the hazard and the hole, drop as far back as he wants or re-tee and hit 3.

That isn't always OB. If he can find it, he can play it if it isn't OB or a hazard.

More important is the score....guys talking about their 77, 81 over the weekend...They get in a tournament and shoot 92.

These are the same guys that claim the 300 yard drives day in and out. I'll take my 250-260 drives and my 83 and put it up against most of these guys that claim to be the 2013 version of the "hammer".
