yeah it's like what i said during the 2011 season, when i picked 2006 LSU over 2011 LSU

2011 LSU was way too one dimensional to run with this team

Bama was better but i don't know if they were good enough

but yeah these days, 10 years is too much time to compare teams. CFB just moves too fast. that 2008 UF team is one of the most talented teams ever and (even with 1 loss) a candidate for GOAT of its era and i think this LSU team would destroy them. even worse for 2009 Bama

they were running a dinosaur zone read scheme that would be fully contained these days

Oddly enough the advanced metrics didn't love LSU this year like you would think. I think a lot of that is because they started out so far behind. The computer models started catching up but they undervalued LSU all year.

yeah i think our tinkering on D (with some injuries added in) in the middle of the year is going to always affect the way our stats came out

You really can't even compare 2019 LSU to 2011 Bama/LSU. I can't guarantee 2019 LSU would handle those defenses but those defenses never saw passing attacks like 2019 Clemson's much less 2019 LSU's. You have to compare teams to their contemporaries.

There’s also rules like targeting put in place since hen that have really hampered the aggressive of defenses. It’s not a coincidence that offense numbers have exploded since targeting became a rule.

One of, definitely. Not even close to the domination of ‘95 Nebraska.

If LSU were a blueblood, they would have been crowned the GOAT team before this game. That would have been part of the hype...

show me the data on this. targeting isn't that new

it certainly didn't exist in 2007 when Hawaii was setting records that took 15 games and a GOAT offense to break

LSU has 3 titles in the last two decades and has countless other 10+ win seasons. I know they weren't as good in the 80s and 90s but I was under the impression they had their fair share of historical success. Either way, LSU is a blue blood cfb program. Georgia is a blue blood and they haven't won shite.

This LSU team would beat that Nebraska team by 3 scores. 95 Nebraska has nowhere near the depth at corner to handle this offense and LSUs massive front would be able to handle the Nebraska run game enough. Nebraska’s Oline averaged 289lbs, LSUs 2 deep rotation at Dline averages 317.7lbs. It doesn’t matter how good they were, LSU would wear them out up front.

Yet this LSU team would beat those teams.

Of course they would, as those guys on both teams are now all in their late-30s/mid-40s. No one on LSU's football team was even alive in 1995.

No. In order to be crowned GOAT you have to dominate every team you gave and LSU didn’t do that. Had close games against Texas, Bama and Auburn and gave up a ton of yards to a bad Vandy team and Ole Miss.

95 Nebraska dominated every team and didn’t have a “bad” game.

There is a reason 95 Nebraska is known as the GOAT. They were never tested and never had a game they were even close to losing.

I probably need more time to get context, but I'm tempted to put them at #4 for the teams I've had a chance to watch.

My top three (Nebraska, Miami and 04 USC) all annihilated the #2 team in the NCG, with the caveat that I don't think Nebraska faced the true #2. That's the reason I have a hard time putting LSU over those 3.

Beyond that, LSU is a really great team with a really strong year across the board. The greatest team ever is really subjective and nitpicky. I don't doubt they're in that conversation and it's just a matter of what you prefer.

It was a 3 point game in the 3rd quarter.

Nebraska was up 35-10 at half and 49-18 at the end of 3 over the #2 team in that game. The 95 championship wasn’t even competitive. LSU was clearly the better team but they didn’t demolish Clemson. Nowhere near close to what Nebraska did to Florida that year

Please go watch that 95 game. It’s on YouTube. What Nebraska did to the #2 team that year was unreal.

Keep in mind, lsu was playing the team with 29 straight wins and 2/3 national titles, not an upstart program......

Don’t know about greatest team, but this may very well have been the greatest season.
