or what about Oilers? obviously that was already an NFL team, but it fits in nicely. plus, the Saints are black and gold because the original owner was in the oil business ("black gold").

+1, getting the Jazz name back is a pipe dream. They take 2 years of marketing research to change logos, no way they rebrand two well established teams in a timely manner. Only problem with the Voodoo is that I imagine Benson holds all the rights.

Yeah, no way we're getting Jazz back. I do think the Brass is a good name and we can use the Green and Gold colors from the Jazz era.

Don't care about the team, but there is no chance in hell the NBA allows an owner to name a team after an ABA franchise. It is the NBA's unofficial policy to stamp all proof of the ABA's existence out of our memories.

Nix the Buccaneers idea. We already have the Milaukee Bucks in the NBA (I know, I know, but it's close enough), the Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFL, etc. Plus I don't give a rat's arse about the old ABA Bucs and neither do 75% of the current fans. And, besides, the name just blows.

The Jazz? Never will happen. And it's ancient history. And before anyone says anything, I went to Jazz games in the Dome. Still ancient history and nostalgia is for losers.

The Voodoo is a fricking joke. Seriously? And even if it wasn't an embarassing name to begin with, the hideous joke that was arena football has tainted the name forever. And I suspect the name isn't available for legal reasons.

The only name I've seen tossed around that doesn't make me cringe is the Brass. Problem is, it may be tied up even the the hockey league folded.

Frankly, I suspect the Hornets will remain the name. I'll bet money that most of the fans who attend the games are fine with it. Maybe a color and logo change, etc. If Gary does want to apply for a name change, it won't be anything I've seen mentioned here.

if he keeps the hornets name, how about black and gold as colors (like an actual hornet)? plus, they're merch sales would increase from people accidentally buying their stuff instead of saints stuff.

i'm just assuming he wants to put his stamp on the franchise and get it out of its reputation of mediocrity, relocation, cheapness, etc.

Good point. Never thought of that.

Benson owns the rights to that name.

The league didn't fold: ECHL...but I'm sure someone owns this name still too.

I vote for something new, something fresh that incorporates the city. I like the idea of the Brass and Voodoo, but those were other teams names as discussed.

So my vote goes to one of these 2

New Orleans Revelers
New Orleans Krewe
