Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been named the 2025-26 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, earning the Michael Jordan Trophy.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the 14th player in NBA history to be named the Kia NBA MVP in consecutive seasons.
Since Feb 1, OKC is 28-1 when SGA plays
The Oklahoma City Thunder have 4 NBA MVPs in the last 13 seasons.
2014: Kevin Durant
2017: Russell Westbrook
2025: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
2026: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
Most in the league over that time period
SGA accolades the last 2 seasons:
2025 NBA Scoring Title
2025 NBA MVP
2025 Western Conference Finals MVP
2025 NBA Finals MVP
2025 SI Sportsperson of the Year
2026 Clutch Player of the Year
2026 NBA MVP
SGA back-to-back MVP notes, per ESPN Research:
- No. 1 seed, NBA-high 64 wins, despite third-most team games missed due to injuries
- First player to win consecutive MVPs since Nikola Jokic in 2020-21 and 2021-22 and the first guard to win consecutive MVPs since Stephen Curry in 2014-15 and 2015-16
- First guard to average 30 points and 55% shooting in a season in NBA history
- Joined Michael Jordan as the only players to average 30 points, 5 assists and 50% shooting in 4 consecutive seasons in league history
- Did not score below 20 points in any game all season. He is the third player to score 20+ points in every game in a season, joining Wilt Chamberlain (1961-62, 1963-64) and Elgin Baylor (1961-62)
- +788 on the season, more than 100 points better than the next closest player in Victor Wembanyama (+682)
Not bad for a fly over city. Let the melting begin

The full MVP voting ballot. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ran away with the award. He had 83 1st-place votes

The melt began in the two page thread already on here.

Alright alright alright even I have to admit that's pretty impressive

SGA gifted his teammates some Rolex watches, golf bags and other bling. Love the trench coats it was a shirt to Chet lol. He takes good care of the team which is why they play great together. McCain just got to team a few months ago and got all the stuff too. Everyone on roster even if they didn’t play this year like Sorber.

If SGA played back in MJ's time ...
He wouldn't have played in MJ's time. He would have been on his arse all game long.

I don’t agree with these “he couldn’t have played” arguments because these players obviously have skill sets that absolutely would translate to any era. The problem is contextualizing them because of how different the rules are and how the game is called. You take a guy like SGA averaging 31ppg now and you could easily make the argument that average drops to 23-24ppg or lower. The best example of the prolem would be James Harden’s peak when he’s getting a ton of phantom calls and traveling on a very large portion of his scores. Those offensive numbers could’ve been dropped so dramatically it’s hard to even know what he would’ve been in an actual basketball season.

Why would we assume this with illegal defense and all the isolation he'd face? Seems a driver like SGA would feast with those easy opportunities all game.

More compressed defenses in general and a totally different style of defense. Just in a basic way most teams push to the baseline in today’s game to defend a rim attack. They want to push you out of the box on the middle drive and to the baseline off the wing or below. Before we taught funneling players to the middle, into your bigs and shot blocker.

There's already a thread for this.

I saw the story yesterday and I thought, "repeat guy and I don't know what he looks like."
Now I do I guess.

You miss the point. If he played the way he plays now back in those days, like I said, he'd be on his arse most of the game. Players knew how to police the game back then. Early on, they brutalized MJ and others coming into the game at that time.

I agree with you about him not being what he is in this league but you said
I don’t agree with this

Nah he’d average 40 a night. The game is a lot faster and more athletic today.
