Toto has said that the reason for the failure is that Bottas didn't hit his mark and the mechanic had a wierd angle for the gun. Rounded it off.
...the other 3 wheels came off just fine.

Wow, throwing their driver under the bus.
Allison came out and took the blame for Lewis' strategy as well.

Monaco has always been difficult for passing but the current cars are so much bigger than they were in the past it is impossible now. It's actually a shitty race. Just has a lot of history and hype.
The current cars are ridiculously long. It's not just the extended nose, but the length from the cockpit to the rear axle is a lot longer than the previous era. I wonder if the ERS is part of that extra length, or if it's because the fuel tank has to hold enough gas for the whole race! (Refueling was banned in 2010.) Imagine how fun Monaco would be in a modern technology 1970-style car with small dimensions and low downforce.

As a diehard DTS binger the past few weeks, damn I'm glad I found about F1; Monaco was the first live race I got to watch, we were so pissed when they cut to Lance freaking Stroll during the only meaningful overtake of the race
Also remarkable that a man knighted by the Queen of England put "today sucked balls" in a tweet

The ran historic races there this year that are available on youtube. Some cool stuff to watch. They aren't going all out, but they were going fairly hard. At least the front runners. Some famous old name that I can't remember right now wadded up a 1970's Ferrari F1 car.
Monaco historics should bring them up on youtube.
eta-Getting rid of the downforce would be the best thing ever. The aero is where all the development is going and is what separates the haves from the have nots. Go all mechanical grip and everything evens out.

What was Enzo's quote, something about aero is for teams who can't build a proper engine.

Yeah.
Thing is, when it said that he had what was probably the most aerodynamic car.

Ive lost a lot of respect for Toto over last two seasons, but this is clearly some internal agreement to protect someone. I would hope this was Bottas decision to protect the crew member.
Bottas was on point with his mark.

I need to see the interview because the words may just read worse than they were meant.
Root cause being the car was slightly off the mark, which caused a chain reaction that the wheel guy didn't adapt to. Looks like he is on the yellow line for sure, assuming that is the spot.
If the nut hasn't even been removed they may find something else.
streamable link someone pointed out the front jack guy in this video and that he had to come towards the car. Usually the front wing drives into the jack since it is sitting on it's spot.

I was surprised that it took so long to try another gun (even though it wouldn't have helped). If I were the rear mechanic and was done with my wheel and saw the front mechanic trying 2-3 times, I would have gotten off my butt and moved to the front with my gun just in case...
Maybe they are trained to not do that...

bullshite excuse... If that truly was an issue, why did the other 3 come off just fine and/or were the other 3 crew able to adapt perfectly fine.
Bottas should tell Mercedes to frick off and make them fire him so he can take his money and go elsewhere.
They treat him like shite.

Yup, I was kind of in shock when he signed on for another year. Id have taken a ride in a shittier car just to get away from the toxicity of hamilton.

I'd have taken the $15 million and a good chance of consistent podiums from Merc. Now way he gets a better deal anywhere else.

Salary is closer to $10 million, plenty of teams could have afforded that.
Vettel got $15 from Aston Martin, Bottas could have taken that ride or even the Mclaren ride and been in a better position than he is right now.
Unless he is beating Hamilton, then something always goes wrong.

My bad. I was looking at 2020. I still stand by my point, though. He is at the top of the top. He knows he's the stepchild, but that's what he's getting paid for. He's not getting on the podium with any other car.
And speaking of salaries, I see Danny Ric with $17 million vs Norris @ $2 million. If I'm paying $17 million for a driver, then I would expect him to be doing a little better after five races. Norris is crushing it at an 89% discount. Good on Ricciardo (and his manager) for the salary, though. Make that money.

Didn’t they just announce an contract for Norris? Is that not kicking in until next year?
