Agreed, they had Lewis in a no-win spot there. If he pitted Max would’ve stayed out and took over P1. Given the situation Mercedes made the best call, every team would’ve left their driver out in the same situation.

Maybe the gap was larger, but maybe it was only 17 seconds.
They only needed 10 seconds for the PIT under VSC/SC to retain position.

I change my earlier statement. Toto is the Urban Meyer of F1

9. Williams
10. Haas
That was my pre-season ranking.
A big miss on Aston Martin. Terrible year for them after having so much promise.
Ferrari really surprised me. Sainz especially. Id have never predicted he would have finished ahead of Lecrec. A hell of a year from Sainz.
I expected more out of Mclaren because of Ricciardo coming on, but he didn't do all that great.
Alpine was solid. Nothing amazing. Glad to see Ocon get his win.
Tsunoda showed a lot of promise early on, but he didn't do all that great except today. Gasly quietly carrying the team on his back.
Alfa may have finished ahead of Williams had Kimi actually given a shite and we didn't have fake Spa results. He was mentally retired before this year.
Williams actually scoring points
Haas was about as bad as everyone figured. Here's to hoping they have next year's car figured out.

Nah, regs put in place to take down Merc took them down as well. Didn't have the team to modify the car to compete.
Think Aston has been looking ahead since last January. There is talk of them developing their own engine as well. Stroll doesn't like the idea of being a customer team.

Rewatching the race and it’s hilarious, now that the season is done, almost nobody is wearing masks…. DGAF now that they can’t be penalized.

Not true. Hence why he negotiated in Saudi rather than submit it to the stewards.
Your missing an important part. He said he wouldn’t submit it. They can still act in their own if they see fit but why would they if they see teams are self correcting. The stewards are under no obligation though to go through the racing director.
quote:
Revised Sporting Regulations issued by the FIA have confirmed that stewards will have the authority to investigate any incident deemed worthy of penalty in Formula 1 this season. The four-person stewarding panel will now be able to investigate any incident without it having been previously reported by race director Charlie Whiting. “The race director may report any on-track incident or suspected breach of these Sporting Regulations or the Code (an “Incident”) to the stewards,” reads the updated regulation. “After review it shall be at the discretion of the stewards to decide whether or not to proceed with an investigation. The stewards may also investigate an incident noted by themselves.

That's pretty much the same thing. It's a catchall, but nothing goes to the stewards without the race director culling it first.
I can't think of a situation where they overstepped the race director.

I posted this meme earlier...
It is a play on Jos leaving, then child, Max at a karting track/gas station because of a bad performance.
They kind of laugh about it now, but Jos tells stories that would probably get you arrested in America today.
Probably some common ground betwen Lewis and Max on father issues.

Get who out of the way of who...
I very much would feel comfortable making a good faith argument that the rules are designed to allow the back markers to get out of the way in a fight for the lead and when you have a chance to position 1 and 2 but not further back, you do it. Ive made worse arguments in court, maybe have made better, but Id easily make this argument. The counter argument is essentially, "We should have won the race because irrelevant cars further back didnt unlap (none of which protested), so give us the win" when the backmarkers that were relevant to the lead could and did get out of the way. Rule intent accomplished, Masi has that call to make per 15. whatever, and life can sometimes be unfair. Noone precluded Merc from changing tires, noone made Max pit 3 times, they each took chances, race director used his right to clear irrelevant cars. End of story.
Also, rules suck sometimes, like when Lewis got to unlap in Imola when he was dead in the water. Noone should be stealing Max's moment right now.

Wow, Sean Payton and Toto Wolff have completely different methods of coping. Didn't Payton lock himself up alone for a few days and stream Netflix continuously while eating buckets of icecream after one of those recent devastating Saints playoffs losses?
