With the pace he was running at this weekend, Mercedes could possibly take a new ice and 5 place penalty for every remaining race and easily make up those positions.

I had the same thought after watching LH charge through the field. With that kind of ridiculous speed and no spending cap, what's to stop them?

There's no guarantee their tires will be up to the task in the desert, however.

Interlagos gave the Merc's a large advantage to pull this off as well. Not sure if that translates on the last 3 tracks.

Yeah, you can actually pass at Interlagos. Probably not much passing at Qatar. Who the frick knows about Jeddah. To be determined at the "new" Yas Marina.

Alright fellas... here's Max's onboard camera... what do you think??

Based on steering input, Max doesnt even attempt to make the turn until he's almost off the track... a clear halfhearted effort in steering until he finally cranks the wheel when the job is done

FIA may not have had this angle at the time, but they DID have car telemetry at their disposal... including throttle, break, steering input, speed, etc etc

Now
Let the shitshow commence

Karun Chadhok had a tweet earlier that said something towards lightly let off the brakes and let the steering wheel drift open, something every racer has done and would do in that situation.

Don't think he deserves a penalty, but I didn't think he deserved one at Monza, or Lewis at Silverstone.

Turning into the NFL with all this instant replay and over-analyzing data.

100% every racer does this exact move dating back to karting days... it's one of the first things you learn

Scott Mitchell was goin on about this yesterday and I think he's right... this is the real issue here... it's not so much the move Max pulled, it's how it's been enforced this year in particular... and now all of a sudden throw all those previous incidents and penalties are out the window

I get the FIA not wanting to get involved and have a "let them race" mentality... I actually like it, similar to the idea the best ref/ump is the one you dont notice... but they just decided to throw consistancy out the window with this one, so what are the drivers and teams going to expect for the remainder of the season?

I would love to listen in on the drivers pre-race meeting in Qatar

I get why, but I wish they would broadcast those drivers meetings again.

I'd take those back over grid girls.

Everyone is so fed up with Lewis winning that they put up with anything Max does.

Max braked so late that had he turned the wheel more, he'd have at minimum locked up and at worst gone into Hamilton. Hamilton braked really late too, but it looks like Hamilton may have had the control to make the turn. Anyways, yeah, I'm okay with the no-call when looking at this one incident. I'm less okay with it when looking at the season as a whole, which has seen several penalties for this exact thing.

Merc to report to stewards tomorrow to present their case for the "new information"; 17:00 Qatar time. Translates to 8:00 CST.

Not a hearing to see if Max will be fined, a hearing to see if their is sufficient new information.

The Brazilian stewards will make the decision, not the Qatar stewards.

Postponed to at least 22:00 Qatar time

Decision to decide delayed until tomorrow

I agree that based on precedent from other incidents this year, Max could or should have been penalized. But it would have had to been a 5second penalty. He could have kept pushing in that race and maintained p2. Punishing after the fact for Brazil or grid penalty for Qatar would have been overly harsh in my opinion.

So I just listened to Albion talking about the Qatar track and he hinted that this track will be chaos to drive. He said it’s very difficult to see where the roads are going and it’s a very difficult track to learn.

He said all the turns are extremely awkward and don’t match turns for any other racetrack. He said they’re preparing for sand to be a major issue and that track limits will definitely be an issue. And that there are various aspects of the track that give Red Bull and Mercedes advantages. Also he said this isn’t a track where overtaking is going to be easy at all.

I believe it was in FP1 that they were discussing adding track limits once they see where drivers were abusing going off track to gain an advantage but that the track makes it really difficult because there's not much for frame of reference in each turn to know if you will/will not be within the limits until its too late. Qualifying could be interesting tomorrow if some times start getting deleted.

Masi came out and said they have to stay inside the purple/white kerbs at all corners.

Should be interesting. Could see quali times deleted after each session since there will be so many areas for the stewards to police.

GP Drivers Association meeting tonight to discuss inconsistencies in stewarding. George going to present a powerpoint to Masi on findings.
