Is the move now for RBR to put a new ICE in Verstappen's car as a counter for the last three races of the season?

When will then be now?

Probably depends on what Max needs to win the title. If he can finish out in 2nd while only having to finish ahead of Hamilton once then they probably risk not taking another engine. If it would even help.

Assuming Max plays for 2nd Hamilton has to win out to win the title.

Max would basically need a maximum of around 64pts to win the title. However he can get them. And that assumes Hamilton gets fastest lap and 1st place. Which is unlikely.

I don’t think RBR risks it — plus, no guarantee given the reliability concerns that Mercedes can run their engine with such a power advantage. They knew if Max won in Brazil, it’d shut the door on them, so they may have thrown everything they could and are going to try and figure it out. They should have a lot engine data with as much Bottas having taken so many.

Absolutely this. There have been multiple far less egregious similar instances this year where an actual penalty was enforced that cost drivers points and positions. For there to not even be an investigation today, much less no penalty assessed, is fricking terrible.

These incidents seem to come down to how bad the result was. As long as both cars can continue they don't want to rule on gaining the unfair advantage by deliberately going wide.

Austin had two such incidents.

Maybe it is just hard racing and because of the letter of the rule it's impossible to have hard racing without the potential for these incidents.

Reports out that Audi has purchased McLaren as a whole with the intentions to eventually field a F1 team.

As some who has connections at Audi, this would be huge for my quest for paddock access…

Interesting. If Audi could come close to doing in F1 what they did at Le Mans it would make the top of the grid even more competitive.

Looks to be just speculation at this point.

I have wondered with the wide popularity of DTS, how long it would take for Audi/Lambo/Porsche to jump into the game.

Don't the new engine regs come into play around 2025? I wonder if an announcement is coming that McLaren is going to switch to Audi engines at that time...

Kind of sounds like VW group is after technology, not that they are bringing it.

Porsche is also rumored to be trying to partner with RBR now that Honda has left.

Sounds like VW Group is just fricking with F1 again to try and influence the regulations then just not join.

Earlier this year, VW was part of the engine manufacturers meeting that took place at Monza

The complexity of the current P/Us is a massive barrier to entry for the sport. F1 is looking to add new manufacturers to the sport, so driving down cost of the new P/Us as well as complexity will be a major factor in the new regulations, and this is what VW wants settled before they commit.

VW already has a foothold in F1 at Williams. Capito (former head of VW Motorsport) is now CEO and Team Principal of Williams. Francois-Xavier Demaison (former VW Technical Director) is now the Technical Director at Williams. He took the seat that Paddy Lowe left vacant.

VW and RBR have a long history together, so it isn't unreasonable to think they would want to work together moving forward in F1.

Will any of it ever happen? Who knows. But VW Group has been hanging around F1 for a while now, testing the waters here and there and waiting to see if the temperature is right.

VW has done this many times though. They keep wanting the barrier lowered and start their bullshite about sustainability and biofuel/electric needing to be bigger in the formula.

Then back out last minute and go run LeMans.

Same shite this time too... sustainability, real world practicality, yadda yadda yadda

If they were really serious, it seems a full takeover of Williams would be the play... hell, Dorilton only payed 150m euro for the whole team... They would have Merc engineering specs at their disposal and could jump from there

But let's face it, the already have what they want out of F1... and that's tech for their DPi, LMP and GTLM programs like you said

Pato O'Ward, McLaren Indy driver who will drive at the young driver test at Abu Dhabi after the F1 season, got to drive Mika Häkkinen's 1998 McLaren F1 car at Laguna Seca yesterday.

I'm posting this so we can be reminded of the good ole days of the V10 buzzin' hornets.

He even got coaching from Mika himself:

Edit: Looks like Mika himself took laps on Saturday as well:

Missed out on the race Sunday, but it’s crazy to me how good Max and Lewis are.

Mercedes car was much better in Brazil, yet Max still beat Bottas. Red Bull was dominating in Mexico, yet Lewis still held off Perez.

I don’t think they’ve put out the new season driver power rankings, but after Mexico, it was Max, Lando, Lewis. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lewis jumps Lando, and we have the same top two in the power rankings as in the drivers championship.
