Question for F1 fans here: Does Max Verstappen beat Alonso in a similar car (Red Bull)? Discuss.
At their peaks? Too close.
It is the college football comparison thing. Hamilton v Verstappen v Alonso at their peaks in the same cars would be mental.
Hamilton v Alonso was already amazing and Hamilton was a rookie.

That car was crippled.
It’s amazing that Max passed Ricciardo.
To be fair, Ricciardo had significant damage to his car as well.

I missed that, who hit Daniel?

Danny Ric got hit by Leclerc when Stroll went offroading.

Leclerc slid under him and basically took out a good portion of the right side of his car. Spun him around, too.

What was the deal with Checo's car? They were panicked telling him to pull over.

Engine. They are shipping it to Japan to get checked out. The initial thought is a total loss, but they thought that about Max's as well. They must have seen a vibration or loss of some pressure to make the call they did.
Who knows what is really going on with their engines at this point.
RBR is bringing up a perfect point about the spending cap right now. What happens whe. Damages are unavoidable from your standpoint.

They only get 3 engines/pieces for the year and these cars are expensive.
They shut them down with quickness if there is any doubt with reliability.

Exactly like I said earlier… If they are just shitty engines, then so be it, you should be held to the 3 engine rule.
Now if you are torpedo’d and someone else wrecking into you ruins an engine, then you should be allowed to swap that one out.

I could see something like that; they would have to bring into account blame. A driver being fully to blame versus mostly to blame.
Puts a lot more on the stewards which are already inconsistent at best.
The Bottas v Russell and Ham v Ver wrecks would both then fall under split blame and no additional cap room. Whereas the Bottas and Stroll incidents this weekend would fall on allowing repair of damages.
Would also bring into question who decides the engines are irreparable or what caused the damage. Max's engine was called good in FP3 and only later was the crack found. One of those great grey areas F1 teams like to expose.

It’s getting into a dangerous areas though. There’s already been weak rumors about Red Bull sueing Mercedes for damages. The cap will make teams more overbearing than they are now. Don’t like that part of it honestly

I haven't really seen much on it lately, but there isn't really a penalty for exceeding the cost cap. Or at least there is no formal penalty system put in place.

I think I read where it was spewing coolant and they were worried about overheating so they had him stop immediately.

Agreed - make the teams submit paperwork and maybe be inspected to make sure that they are just restoring to the previous condition with no upgrades...and then not count that amount towards the cap.

have the stewards assign a percentage of fault for everyone involved and dole out the costs pro-rata. bottas is 100% at fault for 4 or 5 cars this weekend, that cost hits mercedes.
this would never happen because every wreck would be appealed, but it would likely keep the first turn of races much cleaner, though not as exciting.

I could only imagine the level of inane argument that comes between 64% and 61%.
I do think it will get addressed with wrecks and the cost cap at some point. Even with self inflicted damage. The cost cap is supposed to provide for better competition and if teams/drivers have to drive less competitively because of money then the cost cap isn't doing what is intended.

the could split up development costs, production costs, salaries, etc. and have different caps on each. but that would require some serious accounting oversight to police.
