For team radio on the formation lap?

So Mercedes will get called in as well, since Hamilton said in his post race interview that he was talking to his pit wall on the formation lap?

Yeah, that was the speculation because everyone was called in prerace stuff. Turned out to be the shirts.

Apparently the lap before the restart doesn't fall under formation lap. There is another technical directive that governs that. Still a bit unclear, but lots were talking back and forth so the restart lap must be different. It is counted as a lap so it makes sense.

Good point about it counting as a lap.

The shirt thing seems stupid, but they are taking a queue from the NFL and NBA, or maybe F1 did it first. Protect the brand that is the cash cow for everyone involved.

Yeah. F1 is walking the line allowing the discussion, but they don't really want it on the regular broadcast. Keeping it in the prerace stuff.

I think F1s situation is a little different in that a lot of people in F1 are not happy about the location of a lot of these Grand Prixs and feel they’re legitimizing authoritarian governments just by having a Grand Prix there.

Hungry was ranked as the country that has become most authoritarian since Covid started. Saudi Arabia has been trying to get a Grand Prix for so long. And I think a lot of people like Vetell are calling out the FIA. The FIA wants to be seen as inclusive but it’s sending it’s teams to the least inclusive countries on the planet.

Yes, the should not be a part of the actual races themselves. I’m in full agreement on that

That all makes sense. I wasn’t even talking in terms of human rights, or politics or BLM. I just meant dress codes in general. The NBA and NFL realized that image was everything. ‘Protect the shield’ mantra. Strict rules on attire, uniforms, etc.

People may think it’s stupid, but these leagues know that it presents a better product.

I wonder what F1 will do if any of the drivers wear LGBT stuff at their Middle Eastern venues.

They're trying to survive the current zeitgeist.

If they surrender, for example if they go fully electric, the sport will die, instantly.

Is Red Bull going to start struggling with the lack of remaining engines? I’m a new fan, so can someone explain how this works and what situation this leaves Red Bull in for the rest of the season?

Engine Allocation

Each drivers status after Hungarian Grand Prix

quote:

ICE – internal combustion engine, TC – turbo charger, MGU-H – motor generator unit heat, MGU-K – motor generator unit kinetic, ES – energy store, CE – control electronics, EX – exhaust system.

In 2021 F1 season, drivers can use 3 ICE, 3 TC, 3 MGU-H, 3 MGU-K, 2 ES, 2 CE and 8 EX.

Should the number of races in the 2021 Championship drop to 19 or less, the permitted number of motor generator units-kinetic (MGU-K) will be reduced to 2.

The first time an additional element is used: Ten (10) grid place penalty.

The next times an additional element of the same type is used: Five (5) grid place penalty.

If a driver incurs a penalty exceeding fifteen (15) grid places he will be required to start the race from the back of the starting grid.

Any of the seven elements will be deemed to have been used once the car’s timing transponder has shown that it has left the pit lane.

During any single Event, if a driver introduces more than one of the same power unit element which is subject to penalties, only the last element fitted may be used at subsequent Events without further penalty.

If a driver is replaced at any time during the Championship his replacement will be deemed to be the original driver for the purposes of assessing power unit usage.

Oof. That's a "fuuuck me, man" face if I've ever seen one. Also makes me hate Buxton even more. At least Sainz got a "podium."

Short answer...maybe.

They can still use old engines, which happens every year. I don't know about Perez' engine today, but the feedback on Max's engine is that it was a cracked mount, which is repairable and possibly not even caused by last weeks wreck.

That engine has two fewer races (and one big impact) on it so a race like Brazil it could be an advantage.

Most were likely bringing a new engine to Spa, but yeah, the engine Max has won't have a potential upgrade that it could have had.

If you look at it another way, sacrifice 1 race starting with a penalty to have an advantage over several races, which even Merc has done in the past. Recently the championship has been wrapped up early in the season so these penalties for new engines are just side stories.

Formula E is fully electric and is gaining massively in fans right now from what I’ve heard FWIW.

Toto should just have Bottas wreck Max every race.

Reddit was fawning over Seb’s rainbow show.

LOL

Money talks… if F1 and Hamilton were the SJW’s they claim, they would refuse to go to Saudi.
