quote:Agree 100%. As a new fan (thanks to Netflix), I like waking up to watch qualifying on Saturday and racing on Sunday that's over in time to go to Mass.
Really like the idea of waking up on a Sunday with a race to watch. Do most of the European races start at 8/9 on Sundays? I would imagine Asian and North American races have other time slots
Yesterday was a yawner but still interesting. The start was the most exciting part, and I like seeing Racing Point start to assert itself over the "best of the rest."
As well as Max, Stroll, and Perez started, before the first lap was over Hamilton was clear by at least two seconds.
No safety cars and no rain make Jack go something something...

Speaking of, what happened to him the past couple weeks? Just couldn't get it done. He looked so good at 1st Silverstone, but has fallen back.
Right. Renault seem to just be going through the motions and no one seems to care. Maybe they are taking Alonso's advice and looking to 2022.
I think I remember him saying he felt their car was better suited for Spa.

I saw somewhere, maybe on reddit, that Ric has a bet with Cyril that if he gets a podium, then Cyril has to get a tattoo of Ric's choosing, though Cyril can pick the size and location. That seems like some solid motivation for a guy like Ric.

Seems to me that both are power tracks: long straights & high-speed corners. I wonder how Cyril thinks they'll be better at Spa.

Low downforce maybe? Not sure.
Could just be sunshine pumping. No one usually talks about tracks being bad for them until after they perform bad.

So is anything going to come of Leclerc driving a whole lap with no seatbelts after he was able to restart his car? Surely this has to be a HUGE safety violation.
LINK
ETA: He's very clearly trying to avoid outright saying "my seatbelts are off"

All 10 teams have signed a 5 year commitment... Teams will remain the same til 2025.
Guess Haas enjoys the beat down.

You'd think so but surprisingly I've heard teams say that they run a lot of downforce at Spa. I don't think I'd want to tackle Raidillon, Pouhon or Blanchimont in a low DF setup. :)

Maybe not in so many words but teams will say that they're not expecting much on a particular weekend or that a certain track is going to be a challenge for them.

Monetary bonus for signing before the August 31 deadline I believe
Willing to bet that all teams let Ferrari have veto power over rules changes again
Also, Ferrari has claimed they have a new package coming for Spa and Monza in a few weeks... gonna be interesting to see what they can do

Lots of talk regarding the new rule on engine modes... Honda doesn't seem to be a fan, and we all know Merc isnt either, but Toto had something interesting to say
Basically, quali mode puts a ton of stress on the power unit for a few laps... Toto thinks they can reduce the stress and raise the number of laps of higher performance... not to quali mode levels, but better than normal race pace for an extended period of time
This, in turn, would have the exact opposite effect that the new rule is trying to fix... No more Williams, Alfa Romeo or Haas in Q2

“We have a good quali mode, we’re able to give it a little bit more power in that last session, and if that is not possible anymore, because everything needs to be smoothing out over the race, it’s not a deficit for us.
“On the contrary, we think we can translate that into more performance in the race.
“And that is something which is a great challenge, which we will take on once the rule is implemented.”

Yep, this is what I've been saying. The Merc engine is not only more powerful but also more reliable. Thus it can tolerate a higher performance mode that other engines can't handle. So it's going to favor Mercedes even more.

Pretty damn surprised nothing has been done about this. Maybe they are waiting until the next drivers meeting to talk with Leclerc about what happened, but I wouldn't be surprised if they sat him for a race. He is a big name, but that type of violation is not looked lightly on.

He'll get some points on his license at a minimum.
Probably a fine too. And a big issue will be made at the next drivers briefing.
Suspension? Nah.

It's strange because Leclerc said something right after he started moving again, then sounded really unsure. Ferarri kind of missed the message he sent the first time.
Going around the second time kind of makes it egregious. I wouldn't bet on a suspension either, like the other poster said, it is strange there has been silence on the subject.

Also of good news. All the teams signed the Concorde Agreement. So that makes F1 a lot more stable until 2025.

Watching drive to survive for the umpteenth time and RoGro putting it into the wall under a safety car in Azerbaijan is still so fricking hilarious

Grosjean has nudes of Gene Haas. Has to. Who would keep this idiot in their car?

Did I hear correctly, did his engineer call out “24” to indicate his lap was 1:24? So with no seatbelts on he took it round for a full send race pace lap.
