Spent 8 years at Tulane, was hired by Washington in October and is already leaving to become the AD at Nebraska.

quote:

Sources: Nebraska is finalizing a six-year deal to make Washington athletic director Troy Dannen the school’s new athletic director. The hiring of Dannen gives Nebraska an immediate replacement for Trev Alberts, who left for Texas A&M last week.

Leaving Tulane for Washington was completely understandable, and while he acted like a complete dick on the way out, any reasonable person would understand why he made the move.

But this has to be a kick in the nuts for Washington. Here they are about to move to the B1G and they think great times are ahead, and both their Football HC who just played for a natty, and their brand new athletic director leave for other schools.

I guess Washington is not a top program.

You must not have been paying attention then. He's been talked about on here relatively quite a lot.

washington to nebraska seems like a lateral move at best. probably closer to a slight downgrade. interesting move to make.

The AD job is now primarily about shaking donors down for money. Nebraska has the deeper fandom support, so in theory the better job I guess.

Not to mention Chris Petersen, who took the job after declining so many offers while at Boise, who got them to the playoffs for the first time, left them not long ago kind of out of the blue when many thought he was going to be there for a long time.

Seems like everytime Washington has a good thing going it blows up on them. Sure Washington isn't a blue blood but they have a pretty decent football history especially when Don James was there. I think a good coach could find a permanent home there, they just had a string of bad luck because Bama is clearly a better job and Petersen was just burnt out on coaching.

Fisch looks like a good coach, maybe he'll stay for a while but Florida is his alma mater and Spurrier is his idol so they might be sweating if Billy gets fired this year.

Fisch is the ultimate job hopper. He'll be somewhere else in two years max. You know what you're getting when you hire him.

He probably was losing his mind living in the liberal hell hole of Washington State. Nebraska is more down home, college sport loving state. Easily a better job.

It's not great but have you been to Lincoln? It's not great either...

Petersen was burned out and saw the NIL writing on the wall. He’s still an employee of UW as a leadership consultant with the business school and athletic department. He still lives waterfront in Bellevue.

Not the same at all.

College towns are more liberal than the state they are in. Lincoln is not Austin, but it is not Highland Park in Dallas. I doubt living in a liberal hell hole is the main reason he left.

I am surprised he'd leave, but as others have said, the donor base in Nebraska is more loyal and fanatical and there's less competition for funds though in Seattle with all the corporate money and tech wealth it would seem that the money is endless there.
