Not many people would have predicted the Pittsburgh Steelers' current predicament a month or even a week ago, but here we are. The Steelers, after an unsuccessful attempt to re-sign Justin Fields, are now waiting to see if Aaron Rodgers will play for them in 2025.
Pittsburgh waited throughout the NFL's second day of the legal tampering period to get an answer from Rodgers, who is reportedly deciding between the Steelers, the Giants or even retiring.
"Aaron Rodgers is holding the entire Steelers organization hostage," former NFL general manager Doug Whaley said Wednesday on 93.7 The Fan, via Steelers Depot.
There are conflicting reports regarding when the Steelers may get an answer from Rodgers. While many are expecting a resolution this week, NFL Media reported Wednesday morning that it could be weeks before a decision is made.
Pittsburgh's current conundrum started when they weren't able to get Fields to re-sign before the start of the league's tampering period. Money was reportedly one of the reasons why the Steelers weren't able to get a deal done; CBS Sports' Aditi Kinkhabwala reported that the Steelers didn't guarantee any money after the first year. Fields ultimately came to terms on a two-year, $40 million deal with New York that included $30 million guaranteed.

Yet they will wait for his answer if true

The Steelers are in this position because they had a horrible succession plan from Ben.
Ben was already in place when Tomlin and Colbert took over. And they completely mismanaged the end of his career.
It’s not really Khan’s fault. But he has to try to find a longterm QB plan either this offseason or next.

Where does Rodgers go if Pittsburgh resigns Wilson?

Today is literally the first day he is an actual free agent

If that organization has any balls, they will pull the offer, draft a QB and sign someone like Kirk Cousins to come in and be a placeholder until their young QB is ready. You don’t let a 40 year old QB hold your organization hostage like that.

if i was the steelers, i'd rather play a season with Marcus Mariota and draft any of ewers, dart, milroe, mccord than deal with an ounce of fricking aaron rodgers' ego.

well shite, just saw this.

Mariota, Commanders agree to one-year deal
Free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota is returning to the Washington Commanders on a one-year, $8 million deal, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
Mariota served as rookie Jayden Daniels' backup with the Commanders in 2024. Daniels and the coaches often praised Mariota for his mentorship of the rookie, but he also helped Washington win two games after the rookie starter was injured.

A lot of aging QBs take their time to make this type of decision. shite the guy he was a backup for did it several times

The hyperbole in the sports world has gotten out of control.

I’m not a Rodgers fan, but he has leverage and he’s using it.
I’d do the same.
I’d do the same.

That’s an odd way to put it.
Whether they sign Rodgers or not, he’s not exactly a long term solution right? Just get another rent-a-vet and go to the draft like most of the league does when they lose their guy.

Organizational malpractice if you made the playoffs with a pupu platter at QB… you owe it to the guys to kick the tires on A-Rod

He's Aaron fricking Rodgers, he can hold any team hostage, including the Steelers
I'm not saying it's right, but this is who he is and he has the hand to do so and like someone said above, the Steelers should tell him to frick off

Are you kidding? This is the same team that started Mark Malone and Bubby Brister for years, not to mention drafted Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph.
They ain’t waiting on Rodger’s. If he wants to go somewhere else, they will draft a qb in the 3rd or 4th round and run the ball up the middle 40 times a game. They will not be hostages to that prima donna.
