this board was a factor ..times are just changing this board is a major player in the local sports landscape in br I don't need to get any "scoop" from the radio at all I venture to say all of them used td.com as a source on some level

i met him a few times (through a poster on here and something dealing with the show, i forget). i thought he remembered me

at the table, basically, he was really tight, so easy to read. i read him KK. an A hit. i check raised him (bluff), got him to fold, and i showed. i thought it was a joke and he'd remember me, but he got quite upset

I'd say it's also an easier way to get your opinions out and talk LSU rather than listen to others do it on the radio. Songy probably didnt have many if any callers under the age of 50.

i that is an excellent point .. that message boards like this one have killed sports talk radio for the most part .. really .. these places and the internet in general have started killing newspapers .. but the blue bloods that own newspapers have a helluva a lot of money, stock holders to please, and big egos .. so they will march on until the money runs out ..

It sucks though for those of us that drive some in our work and like something other than political talk and rap music.

I don't mind listening to the national guys but it was good to have the option of the local guys especially during LSU football, recruiting and baseball seasons.

Maybe the powers that be figured that gospel would do well with all the 2012 BS going on. If it was Clear Channel that called the shots, I'd assume that as big an outfit as that must be pretty business savy so they must see an advantage to that format.

I think there is still lots of room for sports talk, but the crap on 1210 was no where close to what it needs to be. Sports talk needs to revolve around more interviews you care about and off beat news to pertains to a male audience. Having the same callers on 3-4 different shows would be like reading this board and only a dozen posters.

The top national talk shows have progressed to this format making them still relevant. No need for 3 local shows back to back to back though.

i think a guy like buddy songy could buy time on another station and still earn a living. ott also

but 2-3 shows competing on different networks are likely the only way to keep the model going in the market

i don't think radio based around college towns is that viable, though. college programs are too guarded

i just think management wanted to stop the bleeding .. clear channel is hurting nationwide .. see scott innes losing his job .. there must just be a massive cost cutting directive company wide going on ... even if they only wind up $500 a month in the black with the religious format .. that beats the hell out of the thousands they were losing on the sports format apparently ..

Well yeah exactly. Songy's show was basically the tiger rant for 50+ crowd who don't like the Internet. It wasn't host or guest driven, just people calling up and talking about whatever topic they wanted.

Sports radio -- which barely existed outside big cities 25 years ago -- is probably bigger than ever. This is illustrated by the number of FM stations going to sports programming.

I think we will see less calls -- which you can essentially get from an intenet message board -- and more interviews. I know Mike and Mike almost never take calls now. Instead you will have colorful personalities interacting and intervieiwng star athletes.

Sports radio is even influencing TV -- and the perfect example is Skip Bayless on First Take
