Is there no other am station that ott buddy etc can bring their shows to? Doesn't have to be sports only programming, just a low watt local talk station would do.
1590 has local shows, not sure about national.

sports is a great draw for ads for cars and beer (the two products that make the NFL so much money). You would think they would go to a national sports lineup to save costs instead of gospel

didn't they lost ESPN a few years ago when 104.5 made its push? perhaps having to go with Fox national killed them
Posted on 1/1/12 at 8:36 pm to SlowFlowPro
I am sure espn would rather be on FM

They weren't really making use of the espn programming anyway though

Scona is awesome.
I can't understand how people think this guy is awesome........his show isn't bad, but I don't think it's anything special. Honestly, I believe the most knowledgeable sports talk show host in this market isn't even on the air and it's Hanagriff.......the second most is Jimmy Ott. He can go outside of the local sports and often has an interesting take.
Scona teases his stories too much and it's quite aggravating, and don't forget he was on the air spewing the Lee will be ineligble talk.

Here is a statement from Ott on his facebook, just posted a little while ago:
I was informed this morning that Clear Channel has changed the format of The Score 1210am to Christian programming effective immediately. My show will be transferred to TV on KPBN "The Pelican" which is aired on HD Channel 1013 and Digital Channel 113 on Cox Baton Rouge and AT&T Uverse Channel 11, New Orleans Channel 116, and Lafayette CHannel 1013. The exact times are being finalized. I am also currently exploring other radio options. I will put that information out when that is finalized. I want to thank everyone for their support after this news broke. It has been unbelievable. Meleia, Ethan, and I have some great friends, supporters, and sponsors. We will be filming 10am-noon from the following locations in New Orleans for The BCS Championship:
Tuesday--Frankie & Johnny's
Wednesday--Superior Grill
Thursday & Friday--Walkon's on Poydras St.
Monday (Gameday)--Mike Serio's Poboys
I will also be contributing on Kaare Johnson's New Orleans show which airs M-F on 690am from these locations. 690am can be heard in most areas of Baton Rouge as well as New Orleans. My dad will be joining me for most of the broadcasts. I often have people compliment my dad on his contributions to the show. He loves chatting with people about sports. Come and say hello if you get a chance. I will continue to update the fluid situation of our show. I want to finally wish good luck to my colleagues Buddy, Jordy, Richard, Tommy, the weekend guys, and the board op's in pursuit of their new ventures.

Aren't you glad you got out out radio and into your families carpet business when you did?

the actual ratings (12+) on sports talk radio in the BR market is absolutely horrible compared to other formats .. it isn't even a blip on the radar ... it is OK in men 25-54 .. but nowhere near the demographic where advertising agencies look for when it comes to the big money advertisers like car dealers ... if jimmy ott is paying $2000 a month for his air time and billing $10K a month .. the station realizes just $2K .. not $10K .. based on their overhead numbers, the station needed to be billing close to $60K a month in gross revenue to make it work .. and they weren't even close .. the bottom line is that for years, the hosts have been out exclusively for themselves and haven't paid attention to the overall financial viability of the station itself .. some of that is their faults and some of it isn't ... but if they didn't potentially see this coming, they were just incredibly blind .. these guys have been on the air doing the same thing in the same market every day for over 20 years .. don't think they weren't sending resumes out ..

Completely agree, Hanagriff is my favorite local sports show host.
AFW is a quality local show though ... One i really enjoy.

so they're going to get more per month for a gospel show?

The cost for gospel is certainly less in terms of production/man power.

So it would make sense that they will find another sacrificial lamb and keep going.

damn .. that is tough for jimmy .. but that TV thing without radio isn't going to work .. you have to have digital cable in BR to even see it and it comprises less than 10% of the total households in BR .. so what percentage of those are watching a sports show ?? jimmy's a smart guy that will land on his feet eventually with no problem .. but he just needs to move on ...

hanagriff with gordy rush was awesome. hanagriff by himself was horrible. Soooo dry and boring and as arrogant as Scona is.
Hannagriff should also replace Hawthorne as PBP guy effective 5 years ago.

amazingly, they will do better .. the gospel programming is completely automated and is piped in on a network .. so no board op having to sit there all day and all night .. just someone occasionally making sure the station is still on the air .. that's it .. hell, you can turn off all of the lights on that side of the building and save money on electricity too .. they were losing money on the sports talk format .. they will actually make money on this one considering the overhead ..

Gordy definitely enhances Hanagriff. I enjoy Risher as well.

Friend of mine worked over there and said that he got canned via email this morning. Well not necessarily canned, just that they are still on payroll but not to report to work. Obviously they just don't want to pay out the unemployment checks and what not.
Shitty way of firing people is pretty shitty.
