Florida State has only sold 20k season tickets (5k less than last season)
Posted by MrLSU on 7/10/20 at 10:10 am81
Tallahassee Democrat
The Seminoles have sold around 20,000 season tickets, 5,000 below last season. However, there are season-ticket holders wanting to renew but are awaiting on a final decision regarding the season, according to FSU.
Football provides 80% of the revenue for the average FBS budget. FSU needs that football income to balance its athletic budget and support other sports.
The university confirmed Thursday in an email to the Democrat that positions within athletics and Seminole Boosters, Inc., — the department’s fundraising organization — are being eliminated as part of cost-cutting measures.
“We have eliminated some positions within both Athletics and Seminole Boosters,” FSU said in a statement released to the Democrat Thursday. "Out of respect for our employees who have just been notified, we will not comment on this matter until some time (Friday).”
Warchant.com reported that up to 25 positions were being cut. Among those, according to Democrat sources, include members of the sports information and digital staffs and clerical positions. Open positions within the athletics department won't be filled as well as part the cost-cutting measure.
The majority of FSU's athletic revenue and fundraising comes from the football program, and the loss of the season would significantly impact the financial plans for the FSUAA. Every year, Seminole Boosters funds $34 million in program support on behalf of the athletics department. Fan support is paramount - tickets and donations make up 33 percent of the athletic department's budget.

You’d think with their rich history that they would have a more ardent fan base
Why even start a thread like this?????
If you want to bash FSU do it..... not sure if you noticed but there is a pandemic going on and most people aren’t sure what to do at this point......

Why would you buy tickets for games that probably won’t happen?

I was highlighting the fact that schools like FSU are having serious budget issues when 33% of your athletic budget is tied to fan attendance.

LSU and Alabama don't have a season ticket holder problem. FSU has a fan problem pandemic or not.

20% non-renewal, I would assume is not that bad with the pandemic, but that means they only had 25K season tickets last year. The fans have absolutely given up on that program. That's hard to believe.
80K seats, roughly, second largest in the ACC.
Obviously a lot of success, but it's still located in the middle of nowhere. Maybe people aren't willing to make the drive for games for a subpar product?

Like you, I am a Notre Dame fan, too. I would prefer to have the three national championships in the last 27 years over our ardent fan base with zero national championships in that same period of time.

Willie Taggart will do that to a fanbase, I am a bit surprised that the Norvell hire didn't cause an uptick, but I guess FSU fans are taking a wait and see approach to him.

Ok cool. With the talent available to them FSU should be amount one of the best programs in the country.
Florida teams in general have terrible fan support unless the team is incredible. This is across all sports. FSU and UF had barely any support really before the mid 80s and Florida has seemed to be in a rough patch as well post urban and pre Mullens. FSU hasn’t been “bad” for any stretch of time since they’ve started being good. Hopefully they recovery because they’re one of CFBs best brands now.
I'm not sure what people are expecting from FSU? Obviously we aren't going to set a record for season ticket sales after the last 3 years, a global pandemic, and no idea whether there will be a season, how many games there will be, where they will be played, or if there is a season when the hell it will even start. Add to that Tallahassee isn't a college town and many season ticket holders and game attendees in general often times come from hundreds of miles away to the games. Fan support and game attendance are never going to compare with other teams like whoever in the SEC because people simply aren't going to clear 3 days off their schedule, travel 300 miles, and spend $1000 to see FSU play Wake Forest
