Probably not but he’d be on the field nearly every play contributing in some fashion.

I’m not a falcons fan but I enjoy football. Have season tickets to the falcons and the last year before Covid hit I went to 2-3 games and stopped cause it wasn’t even good football. Falcons were smart they draft QB and start the rebuild. Let a new QB play under Ryan and learn the system. Ryan is too inconsistent. Overthrows and under throws his receivers often. He is not winning a Super Bowl at this point.

I just can't see a scenario where Ryan isn't the QB at minimum this year and next year. IMO it doesn't make sense for them to draft a qb for 3 years from now.

ETA I don't love taking a TE at #4 but I do agree he is the BPA. Ideally they would have gotten a good edge rusher given the first 3 picks are all QBs

Is that what they did?

Have the top 4 picks ever all been QBs? What about top 3? I assume the latter has happened a few times.

Who knows if they'll even draft this high next year. You don't get top 5 picks often unless you are trash, they should use this and get their QB of the future now because who knows, they might not get a chance like this for a while.

What if they don't like their options? If that's the case they should trade back for a future first round pick and that way they have two 1sts next year that they can leverage to move up to get their guy if he's there next year. If not, rinse and repeat

Someone will love Fields and want the 4 spot. Atlanta has a lot of holes, trade back and gain picks.

Top 3 picks were QBs

I find it interesting that they are shopping Julio Jones..... that may make a difference in who they pick. I myself would take Pitts... there is no way of knowing how good any of next years QBS will become.

The Falcons have one of the worst cap situations in the league. They have only 39 active players on the roster and they’re still upwards of $10 million over the expected cap limit. Ryan makes up a large portion of the space being taken up and he's getting long in the tooth.

Bills are coming due, fast. If they take a QB, they are going into full rebuild mode. So the number 4 pick is gonna be screaming rebuild or we're all in.

I said edge but I’m meaning strictly OLB, a DE that’s elite pass rushing and run stopping I can see grabbing. Many of those elite edge rushers aren’t all that good at stopping the run or dropping in coverage if asked to

Specifically, they’d need to be able to play upright or a hand in the dirt like Khalil Mack. It’s a very narrow type of OLB/Edge rusher that is worth it.

Some will disagree but the learning curve is usually so deep at DE/DT that I wouldn’t spend a top 5 pick on one. For every Julius Peppers there are 15 Solomon Thomas’.

Just because he has the talent doesn't mean that Atlanta's capable of doing much with it.

If this were the previous staff, you'd be right.

I think Arthur Smith knows how to utilize TE's.

Figures that this is the weakest edge rusher class in years. None of them are worth that pick.

I've personally always preferred hands in the dirt prototypical DE over the stand up OLBs. In today's time like Cam Jordan me being a Saints fan, I liked John Abraham for the Falcons fans, although I think maybe he did hands in the dirt and upright at times also?

I've always heard DE isn't that bad but DT is one of the hardest, not only the learning curve, but to be physically capable of doing it for an entire season. Old Steelers D coordinator said once it takes longer for a DT to hit their prime then any other position on the field other than QB.

The salary cap combined with the greed of the players is ruining the NFL.

With as big of a crap shoot as QB drafting is, I'm not sure being in the Top 5 is that big a determining factor.

If Lance falls, then the Falcons should take him. They need a back-up QB and a succession plan after Ryan. The team should be borderline .500 if healthy. Pitts isn't going to make them better. They need defense.

I do believe if Julio knows they are going for the rebuild he has made it clear he wants out. Frankly speaking, if I'm Julio, I would want out anyway. He has put his time in that organization like Calvin Johnson in Detroit. I'd advise him to go chase the ring with his last few years in the NFL. I still wish that's what Barry Sanders would have done instead of retiring so young.

I don't believe there is much of a market for Julio. He doesn't make them any better at this point. If they could get a couple of 2nds for him, they should do it..
