I often agree with Hammond when he calls Clarkson a "baboon", but I don't necessarily disagree with the allowance of more danger. It's an integral part of what makes auto racing compelling.

Danger is (was) part of the excitement and draw.

You don't really hear the drivers called "brave" any longer as the cars are so safe.

Used to be race drivers were about like pilots back in the day.

Even many of the drivers will agree with this. Obviously we can't go back to the days when we were losing a driver or two seemingly every year. But there has to be some risk involved.

But I don't think F1 will ever become endurance races. That's just not what F1 is.

Aren't F1 races, by rule, 200 miles or 2 hours, whichever comes first?

Mercedes sets August deadline for Bottas. Possibly could be replaced by Ocon or Verstappen in 2020.

It would be cool for Ocon to get back in the mix. Especially at Mercedes.

Verstappen seems like the type of driver that would crash a teammate. It would make for some interesting Lap 1s.

Damn I wish I could see Russel and Kubica hop over into a Merc or Ferrari just to see how much of their poor times are because of the car.

If I just looked at the FP2 times correctly, the top 18 are within 2 seconds. Then the Williams are both another 1.5 seconds behind the whole field. That's just crazy. And supposedly with the same MB engine.

It would be interesting to see how HAM and VER would co-exists on the same team.

Merc would be foolish to let that happen. Good way to torpedo championship goals in a tight race.

Now, HAM to Formula E in a huge push to legitimize the class?

Yes. The point I was making is that I don't think they'll change that format. Kengel said that he was worried that the races would be longer if they brought back refueling. But they weren't longer back when they had refueling so I don't think they'd be longer now if they allowed it again.

I don’t see VER sitting back and playing 2nd to HAM very much if they were teammates. VER is going to push hard to win and I don’t think HAM is going to like being pushed or challenged very hard by a teammate late in a race.

2 seconds for 18 of 20 cars seems pretty tight, the last two races have been exciting so hopefully the trend continues.

Saw where Williams was running new aero on Kubica and old stuff to get a base with Russell, resulted in a .6 sec difference. Guessing they must've made the swap to the new stuff on Russell, he picked up .2 and Kubica got slower in FP2.

Would Verstappen contend with Hamilton in the Mercedes?

It would be more heated than the Rosberg rivalry in 2016.

But does he like to get challenged by his own teammate? I think the reason he gets along with Bottas is that he doesn't feel threatened by him. Bottas will win the odd race here and there but he isn't going to compete for the drivers championship like Rosberg did - which is why Lewis didn't get along with him. [Not to mention the fact that Rosberg is simply an unlikable human being.]
