I wouldn’t say it broke the Saints players and coaches.
It definitely broke the fanbase, down into a bunch of whiners and conspiracy theorists.

Tom Brady coming back from 4 TD’s in the Super Bowl against the Falcons. They are still circling the bowl

Portland Trailblazers game 7 2000 western conference finals meltdown versus the Lakers. Up by 13 after 3 quarters and then outscored 31 - 13 in the 4th. Missed 13 shots in a row and went 7 and a half minutes without scoring.

The inverse of this is the 2003 Red Sox... Who should have been broken by the Yankees Walk-off, yet came back the next year and broke the curse.
When you include what they did in 04, it's got to be one of the most mentally tough groups in recent memory. Either that, or they were all so stupid/crazy, that they were never affected by it.

Arkansas football after losing to ULM back in 2012.

I wonder...if Clemson is broken from the 2019/2020 playoffs. They gave up 500+ yards 3 games in a row in the playoffs and probably should be 0-2 (instead of 1-2). LSU beat them down in the NCG and OSU beat them down the next year in the semis. I would give a bit more credit to LSU, but I do think OSU beat the crap out of them in 2019 and outside of some weird bounces would have ended them there
Too soon to tell, but that could have been the end.
Dabo also hasn’t done himself any favors lately by being critical of NIL and the transfer portal.
I think Dabo is trying too hard to be remembered as the fatherly mentor type of coach (like a Stallings or Bryant) who turned a bunch of college kids into men instead of accepting that college freshmen are light years ahead of where they were 30-40 years ago in terms of skill development (many are ready to start Day One, even at QB) and desire to market and professionalize themselves (they see all these other high school and college age kids making bank on TikTok, IG, etc., and want to cash in on their talent ASAP too) and that college coaches are basically like pro coaches now.
Technology and social change have given teens and young adults a lot more power than when we were that age and older generations (in all industries) will have to adjust or be left behind.

If say the Motorcycle wreck really did it. But the ULM game started the nail in the coffin that killed the program for a decade.

28-3 is it, for me.
Tough to say they were brkoen tho, they made the playoffs the year after and won the WC game and were a play away from beating the Eagles. It's been a dumpster fire since but that is more the roster turnover that was inevitable.

2011 World Series Game 6.
After decades of being one of the worst franchises in sports (not just MLB) the Rangers were one strike away from shedding their history of failure.
We know what happened.
Lost Game 7. Lost the Wild Card game the following year, then lost the play-in game after that. In 2015 they squandered a 2-0 lead to Toronto in the ALDS.
Then comes 2016. For the first time in franchise history they end up with the AL's best overall record. Then proceed not only to lose the ALDS, but to get swept doing so.
And now, they're back to their old ways of spending lots of $ for nothing in return. No matter who owns or runs the team (outside of a future POTUS) they simply don't care.

Wasn’t part of the Rangers’ problem that they got into a pissing match with Nolan Ryan and forced him out of the organization?

The thread is about programs being broken by a single game not a single incident.

LSU nuked both Notre Dame and Miami back to the stone age in 05 and 06 respectively.

If any game broke notre dame, I’d say it was the beat down they took from Oregon state in the fiesta bowl.

2006 Rose Bowl for USC. They have been recovering ever since.
Uh, in 2006 they lost the last game of the season to their rival by 5 points otherwise they're in the BCS Title game that year. Still went to the Rose Bowl and whipped #3 Michigan.
2007 won the Rose Bowl and finished #2 in the nation.
2008 should've played Florida for the National Championship, whipped Penn State in the Rose Bowl and finished #2 in the nation.
Good lord, USC got knocked in the polls following 2006 Rose Bowl because they were held to a ridiculous standard as your post suggests. "Well, they only won 36 games in a row...they lost to Texas...it's over."

USC never faltered until 4 years after that loss to Texas. If there was a playoff back then they could've won it all in '06, '07, '08.
Even Alabama isn't perfect every year. Shite they've only had two undefeated titles under Saban.

I’d throw in the Raiders and SB37.
Since that game, the Raiders have played 19 seasons.
110-195 Overall for a winning percentage of 36%.
1 Playoff win, which was this past season.
0 Division Championships.
Three 2nd place finishes.
Nine times finishing 3rd.
Seven times finishing last.

I'd go 2018 NFCCG. Saints obviously won a lot of games the next 2 years but that was the last best chance with Brees and it'll always sting that it got taken away.
This one is underrated. Josh Hamilton was a strike away from being a legend.
