Former Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III unconditionally waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and will plead guilty to one count of DUI resulting in death and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a 2021 case in which he's accused of killing a woman in a car crash.

According to a plea agreement presented Tuesday in Las Vegas justice court, Ruggs will serve three to 10 years in Nevada state prison. The case now moves to the 8th Judicial District Court for a hearing on May 10, when he is expected to formally plead guilty.

Ruggs attended the hearing Tuesday and, when asked whether he understood the proceedings, replied, "Yes, your honor."

The charges dropped as part of the plea deal were one count of DUI causing substantial harm regarding his passenger and two counts of reckless driving.

"This is the first step toward a fair resolution to this matter and we look forward to closure for all the parties involved," David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld, attorneys for Ruggs, said in a statement released after Tuesday's proceedings.

3-10 is quite light.

Someone familiar with these things, how much time would you anticipate him actually serving inside the prison under these conditions?

He's extremely lucky to get 3-10. Scott Gragson (big time rich guy in Vegas) plead guilty, gave the deceased's family $21 million, and still got sentenced to 8-20 years.

Curious as well since there could be a chance for him to return to the NFL.

For situations like this is it possible for the family to drop charges in return for meeting some other demands? Or would the state not allow charges to be dropped for things like this?

Doesn't matter what the family wants.

With absolutely no priors with a plea deal Im not surprised.

And those 3-10 years would have made him tens of millions of dollars which is gone. So might as well have been life. He can flip burgers when he gets out.

3-10 years seems incredibly light. Tbh I expected him to spend the rest of his life in prison.

If he was to serve about half of that, then theoretically, that still leaves open a chance to return to the NFL if Goodell allows. If so, that would be the biggest slap in the face to the victim's family.

I am not sure what Nevada allows, but he could be eligible for parole in some states as early as 1.5 years.

He's 24 years old, so there's a good chance NFL teams will have to decide whether to sign this guy when he is released.

They may have agreed to a financial settlement in exchange for not making a fuss about his sentencing. Pretty common.

I assume the family either has or will have a civil case against him and will get a large judgment. A large part of any funds he would get from playing again would go to them in that case

would assume they have some civil case against him that will reward them a significant portion of any future salary

Losing out on all that money over not taking an Uber, and the family he destroyed. Insane to think about.

Even by NFL standards this would be brutal PR.

Considering what? That he drove into a stopped car at nearly 150 mph while drunk?

This is going to be harsh. But why can't he play while he is in prison?

If the family or whoever wants to get paid, he needs to play now during his prime. He's not going to be able to play 3-5 years from now..
