Maybe you should pay attention to academia and corporate board rooms more. It's without a doubt happening and just because your everyday life doesn't reveal this to you, doesn't mean it isn't happening.

Here is the thing. The extremist on both sides think the other sides are crazy. The ones who are in the middle or don’t give a shite, see it for what it is. Two sides of the same coin. Both sides are more alike than different. Just searching out different things to be offended by.

Like I said, your "both sides" isn't an inaccurate take.
As an example, look how corporations, massive corporations support all the causes of the left when they ask. If both sides had equal weight that would never happen, but they don't as clearly the left has more radical activists with real power. Don't mistake people who post anonymously on message boards with REAL institutional power.
Adam Silver threatened to remove the NBA All-Star game from North Carolina because they didn't vote for transgender bathrooms. The NCAA removed NCAA tournament games from North Carolina because they didn't vote for the democrats on transgender bathrooms.
The MLB moved the all-star from Georgia because they didn't vote for Democrat bills. Coca-cola joined to support democrats, Delta supported democrats. United airlines supported democrats in Texas against their voter bill.
The ceo of Mozilla Firefox was removed from his position because he didn't vote for gay marriage.
There are countless examples of the left, yes mainly the left, exercising their massive institutional power to silence and remove political dissent WHEREVER they see fit.
