Warren Moon was the greatest black QB ever… back when it wasn’t such an issue.

Tbh there hasn’t been a ton of evolution unless you count half white guys like Mahomes as being black.

Come on baw, you know how this works. Whites get preferential treatment and all sorts of privilege but people who are just as much white as they are black or anything else will always claim to be whatever “the other half” is. Makes perfect sense.

I really don't understand the point of this doc. Go watch the older QBs play. Most of the evolution is in rule changes and offensive schemes, not the QBs

My thoughts exactly. The title was a quick way to keep me from watching.

So its wrong when people stereotype black QBs' skillsets, yet this documentary is implying that black QBs do indeed have a distinguishable skillset?

Don't watch shows that promote division based on race

Having to watch "Evolution of a Black Quarterback" is misery.

I'm sure the sequel is 'Evolution of the White Point Guard."

Will they be touching on the pitbull stuff with Vick?

As a Falcons fan, Vick is the epitome of What If. Had he dedication like Lamar Jackson, he'd be an all-time great.

Hell, if he had Matt Ryan's career numbers, he's a first-ballot HOF, whereas I don't think Ryan even gets in.

The Atlanta media in particular never lauded Ryan the way they should have, or they way that they did Vick. Vick was electric, for a time, but he made decisions in every game that were beyond stupid.

Don't be obtuse. Race in sports was historically a HUGE thing. For decades, for some people, it was virtually ALL that mattered. I have no idea how much this "documentary" is offering about present day, but it's a mildly legit/interesting topic for fans of the sport.

Don't forget, LSU didn't really desegregate sports until the early 70s. (And the State of Louisiana actually outlawed athletic competition between blacks and whites as late as the early 60s.) Indeed, why did their skin color matter?

I believe they do briefly in Episode 2 when Michael Vick visits with Deshaun Watson to discuss how one has to overcome the adversity of the Media.

So they have to overcome what the media did to them? It has nothing to do with the positions that they put themselves in huh? Lol

So 50+ years ago, when the vast majority of sports fans either weren't alive or weren't old enough to even understand sports at that time.

So, what reasons, if any, do y’all believe are the reasons for the current lack of white RB and CB?
Ill take the hook. Because the position of RB and CB is dominated mostly by black players due to a large portion being more athletic. Their playing style and talents fit those more than white players by a mile. You get a few every now and then.

Now look at QBs. You don’t have many pocket passing black QBs coming into the NFL and pocket passing QBs win super bowls and history proves it. Mahomes and Wilson are the only two outliers in recent history and one can argue they are more pocket passers than running/dual threat or whatever you want to call it plus they are both half white haha.

I guess episode 2 would be pretty interesting to a few in the thread. Vick talks to Steve young and josh Allen. Both having the running skill set. It. Also name drops roger Staubach Fran Tarkenton, Ken stabler, John Elway. There has always been mobile quarterbacks. The original players Aplayed multiple positions until specialization came in.

Yes, it's literally called history.

I'm sure the next hagiographic WWII movie or miniseries that is made will have you say "no thanks, none of us were alive then"...right?
