But baseball is meant to be played outdoors.

See everyone thinks that until they sit thru a day game at the old ballpark in arlington in july.

t's a perfectly good reason to not build roofs.

What would baseball be without an occasional double header.

Owners lose money on doubleheaders… if there’s one these days it’s a day-night doubleheader at 1 and 7

I went to a game at Globe Life in August. Started at 7pm and around 10:00pm fans started cheering for what I thought was no reason. Then I look at the scoreboard and right above it was the temperature…it had finally dipped below 100F. It was miserable.

to at least have a retractable roof in order to avoid rainouts.

Yeah they're gonna throw the money bags at a retractable roof just for the odd rainout? People don't wanna watch baseball indoors, they go partly just to sit in the sun with a beer on a lazy day in this slow moving game. Sweltering Desert heat for 3 months, if that's your teams zipcode climate is worth the investment for a roof but the occasional rainout?

Have you ever been to a game in the summer in Arlington? The Air conditioned part of the covered stadiums is the best part. It might not matter as often for Chicago, New York, San Francisco, etc…but for southern teams it’s a must

This is different than "Every new MLB stadiums should be required to be built with a roof".

The Orioles and the Red Sox are now having a rain delay in a game that was already a rescheduling of a rainout. And some people insist there’s no reason for parks to have roofs.

I also cringe when people claim that roofs (including retractable roofs) ruin the view from the stadium, as if you’re supposed to go to a baseball game in order to enjoy the view of the city. Honestly, that sounds like a reason why a woman would attend a baseball game-viewing the city rather than actual watching the game.

Rays this month had their first home game rained out, they were the only team in baseball that had never had a rain out.

The game has been fine for 150 years with the elements and rainouts. It’s fine the way it is.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Plus, the retractable roofs are rarely open. And cost a shite ton of maintenance. Just like the Brewers stadium. And when the bill is due, no one predictably wants to pay it.

Tampa Bay had a dome roof and people still didn’t show up to support the team

Rays haven’t had a rain out…….yet.

It was just a rain delay last Saturday. Game was played.

Just wait until mid-June though. I may be the only one, but I miss the pre-damaged Trop. 72 degrees and a guaranteed game.

150 year traditions aren't a good reason to refuse to adopt a better practice that's now available in 2025.

That's a lot of added extra expense for a building most teams are going to claim needs to be replaced in just 20 years.

All the purists here are hardcore until they are INSIDE a covered stadium on a 110 degree day or during a gulley-washer.

Not every fan at a game is a local. Imagine driving 4 hours to see a game. or Flying to town to catch a game. Or having a schedule where you can't get to the makeup game.

Most of your games would still be played outdoors. Why not guarantee the best fan experience possible? New stadiums are awesome. They can build areas for those of you that like old stadiums a section with tiny concourses, troughs to pee in, lots of obstructed view seats, terrible PA systems....

And ruin places like PNC, Fenway, Wrigley, Busch, Oracle, Petco, etc? GTFO

Nothing like an ice cold draft and ball park dog watching baseball with those views in the back ground

I can’t imagine the Dodgers or Padres agreeing with this.

The greatest game in Petco history was played entirely in the rain, game 4 of the 2022 NLDS. The game was never stopped once, and neither team complained. Just went to war in the rain

Can't imagine the game would have been as epic if it was in a dome or had a roof.
