Baseball stadiums shouldn't have roofs or club levels, or sushi stands. It should be as simple as possible, the smell of cut grass, a light breeze, bathing in the sun, eating hot dogs. That's our national pastime.

This is baseball

A stadium with a retractable roof may have a few more amenities but you can never match this in a barn

I’ve attended games in 10 different MLB parks.

Open air games are far and away better than retractable/domed games.
Only exception is Houston. That’s a great environment to watch a game open or closed.

Totally understand why Arizona and the Florida/Texas teams have roofs. But other teams should not be mandated to have them

Agreed.

Retractable roof stadiums require substantial structures that obscure views.

SF, Pittsburgh, SD would be ruined

the number of game postponed by rain is pretty small (less than 2%).

LSU has a larger percentage of their football games postponed/relocated due to Hurricanes than MLB does due to Rainouts.

LSU and all of their opponents should be forced to relocate outside of Hurricane Zones to avoid this going forward.

Counterpoint: Every new MLB stadium should be an absolute classic cathedral of baseball meant to last for 150 years and age gracefully

Lol, it's still a shite hole.

Cubs and Red Sox fans think that if you stick a diamond in a dog turd, it still isn't shite.

MLB teams are filthy rich. They can afford to build a retractable roof in order to avoid rainouts.

Lol if you're under the impression teams pay for the stadiums

No.

It makes it ugly AF. Also only the average to bad franchises have retractable roofs.

Have you ever been to a game in the summer in Arlington? The Air conditioned part of the covered stadiums is the best part. It might not matter as often for Chicago, New York, San Francisco, etc…but for southern teams it’s a must

It makes sense in the south (including Texas) or places with excessive heat (Arizona and, soon to be, Las Vegas) and high rain totals. Of course, that's why Texas, Houston, Miami, Tampa (did), and Arizona all have retractable roof stadiums. Atlanta is the only southern franchise without a roofed stadium. Regardless, the frequency of rainouts in places without domed stadiums is pretty low. Once you get to June the number, across the entire major league, is about 4-6 rainouts TOTAL, per month.

Yeah, retractable roofs weren't available in 1875. That's not a good reason to refuse to build roofs in 2025.

It's a perfectly good reason to not build roofs.

What would baseball be without an occasional double header.
