Really?

Detroit beat writers thought the 1991 Pistons were better than the 89 or 90 NBA champs or the 2004 NBA champs?

The same Detroit & Michigan press who mostly thought the Shaq / Kobe Lakers would crush the 2004 Pistons?

No I am not acting like anything. I know how many times he played the pistons. there was always at least one worthy team mike had to go through to get to the finals. Probably half of lebrons finals there was no worthy opponent in the east. It was an utter cake walk.

The only East team I can really raise for LeBron's Finals years is the 2011 Chicago Bulls, that was a GREAT team with depth and an explosive MVP alpha dog in D-Rose, can't imagine how much more competitive LeBron's Eastern runs would've gotten had he not suffered those knee injuries and grown with that team

He got to play the celtics in the conference finals they were nothing but rookie and 2nd year guys and role players. They still took him to 6. And we wonder why his playoff averages look so nice. Jordan would have swept that team. That is two less games against an unworthy opponent that mike would have had compared to lebron.

that's reasonable but he's clearly faced much tougher teams in the NBA Finals

Just for the sake of adding something else to the discussion. Whoa are a couple of honorable mention guys you think would have a legit argument to be included on this list, or maybe guys you think were some of the top 5 to just miss this list of 74.

A couple of names that come to mind

Dwight Howard
Carmelo Anthony
Chris Webber
Ben Wallace
Chris Bosh
Chauncey Billups
Yau Ming

Obviously some are more deserving than others. But who did I miss

That was some good basketball. IIRC that Bulls squad won 60 games during the regular season. They were no slouch. D-Rose had hella potential until his injuries. He was gonna be a bonafide superstar.

In one of the games Rose was lighting up the Heat, then Bron switched on to Rose in the 4th and shut him down.

This is Bill Simmon's updated 2019 Basketball Pyramid:

1 Michael Jordan
2 LeBron James
3 Bill Russell
4 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
5 Magic Johnson
6 Larry Bird
7 Wilt Chamberlain
8 Tim Duncan
9 Kobe Bryant
10 Jerry West
11 Oscar Robertson
12 Hakeem Olajuwon
13 Shaquille O'Neal
14 Moses Malone
15 Kevin Durant

He also has Duncan over Kobe but Shaq can't get past Hakeem.

An absolute shocker he has Russell over Kareem and Bird over Chamberlain

In his original version Russell was #2.

The only change he made to the Top 5 was moving LeBron to #2 and that bumped Magic and Bird down but he always kept them 4,5 or 5,6.

It’s insane that a player like Tony Parker made the list but Dwight Howard did not. I’m not even that big of that guy but peak Howard was an unbelievably dominant force and carried a mediocre Magic team to the Finals.

My thoughts exactly. I respect the hell out of Tony Parker and Manu, but it is very iffy that both of them made this list when Dwight, a 3x DPOY did not.

There's probably a few players here that Dwight could replace. I figure it's because as soon as Dwight's athleticism began to fade his production went down dramatically. It's unfortunate he did not have a longer peak.

Just looking at the centers:
Mutumbo long term will be a great comp, if Dwight can stay in the league for 5 more years, and that’s big if. He needs to stay above 70% FT & get to 33% from the corner (either side but not necessarily both)

I don’t think he was as good as Zo at his peak (Charlotte & Miami first stint) and before we compare stats, we need to acknowledge the considerable space advantage that Dwight is benefits from with a more open court, giving him more room to maneuver.

The Chief shared the front court with a top 10 player, one of the great post up players, & a HOF back up center who gave them a different look on the court. Hard to say what his numbers would have been as a featured guy. I think they are on par, but Parish was the defensive anchor on a multiple title team.

Unsled was 6’7 (though Dwight is only 6’9) and won ROY & MVP with outlet pass that is legendary. I think Unsled eats his lunch.

Walton? frick no.

That’s from the first part. I might add some guys, if anyone is still discussing the minutia of this list.

I’ll say I appreciate this list so maybe some guys can look up some older players who could ball out.

But there is no way Reggie Miller should be that high, lol.

Dwight is much better than Zo. Dwight was a consensus top 3-5 player in his peak. Alonzo I am not sure he was ever even considered top 10. I would say no he wasn’t.

All-NBA First Team
Dwight Howard 5
Alonzo Mourning 1

All-NBA Teams (Total Selections)
Dwight Howard 8
Alonzo Mourning 2

All-Defensive 1st Team
Dwight Howard 4
Alonzo Mourning 2

Boom, my guy, all that is relative to Dream, Shaq, Ewing, Mutumbo and The Admiral all splitting these votes.

Zo and Dwight are about the same height, Zo is a better leader and no one is going to question who’s mentally tougher or physically tougher.

Most of those guys were gone by the time Dwight arrived and Zo finished his career without a kidney.

It’s not close but it’s the other way.

Prime Larry Bird was a magical shot making monster that would tell motherfrickers he was going to drop 40 on them and then do so, and was one of the best trash talkers of all time.

And an in his prime Lebron would shite all over him and make him cry, no questions asked.
