Link to where Olberman directly challenged ESPN and threatened to release inside information?

Who cares? The actual content was less venomous than anything KO said.

The content wasn't why he was suspended, it was the act of calling out your superiors and threatening to release information about them. These people pay you money to do your job, if you want to blast them like that, then quit the job and then do it.

I don't care how popular Bill Simmons is. If he disappeared tomorrow someone else would just fill the space and nobody would go crazy over it.

They're just words and nobody was even talking about it. They didn't even have substance to them - what's the big deal about a little bluster.

If he has a couple of negative comments towards ESPN, nobody cares. You can't just dare your management to do something like that and tell the general public you have inside information that you will leak if they do anything.

Most people would have been fired for that.

If he feels that strongly, then why doesn't he quit the evil ESPN?

Yea Simmons deserved it. He's right about Goodell but you dont call out and threaten your own fricking company like that.

Pretty much. People act like this fraud getting canned would put a dent in ESPN's bottom line.

ESPN only cares about revenue and I would be shocked if his contributions significantly move the needle in a multi billion dollar business.

Do you like 30 for 30? That's his baby. Let's not act like Simmons is irrelevant.

"Some men just like to watch the world burn"

Wouldnt it be great if Simmons would come through with his threat and call out the people that suspended them and then ask the question whether or not they got a phone call from the NFL to react on his rant? What if he's already got one foot out the door and just wants to watch the brass at ESPN squirm. I would love it.

this is actually true of many ESPN personalities with the exception of a few...bill simmons being one of them.

not being on tv would be a big hit for him, but he most certainly would be very popular.

Scott Van Pelt goes anywhere else, and he'd never be heard from again.

I would massively disagree. Simmons was one of the big names that brought credibility to sports blogs. Heck, it used to be insanely hard to find his stuff, and it was put on "Page 2" of ESPN, and was treated like ESPN the Ocho as a joke.

But in the end he'll take the money and disappoint you. He's not ready to be a rebel. A lot of people just want to make you think they're better than the crowd, or that they're noble. When push comes to shove they don't have the stones to get behind those convictions in a meaningful way.

I think svp has a great broadcasting voice and I think his show is underwhelming because he has more potential in radio

I was excited when he got his own show because he had been so good with tirico, but his rapport with russillo is good but boooooring. That fat frick is boring as shite.

Take olbermann, he was just a great broadcasting voice, but now we come to learn that he's interesting, but he never did as well as he's done with ESPN

Jim Rome is one of the few, simmons another, and maybe mel kipper that weren't assembly line products of ESPN and don't need them to have a large audience for what they do

Though all of them lose out from not being on television (actually, I think rome is killing it on showtime)

I'm not sure there's a single ESPN personality that could disappear that would put any kind of a dent in ESPN.

But...if there's 1, Simmons may very well be that guy.

yes, but also he wasn't trying to be "the rebel" If people listen to his so called "tirade" it is pretty clear that the segment was natural (versus some planned stunt for ratings) and simmons was pretty genuine...his comments about his employer seemed like they were impulsive, but he wasn't screaming and yelling...

I think people READ his comments, see obscenities and make a gross misjudgment of what he said.
