honestly I never got why ESPN was getting into the regional stuff
All sports are regional. MLB & NBA national TV games aren't highly rated, but teams in those leagues have their own regional network. A ton of viewers watch the NBA & MLB every night, but the viewers are split across dozens of different channels.
ESPN radio pulls some decent numbers in some markets, but most of the big markets are dominated by local sports radio.
Most people aren't going to espn.com for news about their favorite team. It's good for national news or sports like golf, but a Chicago Bears fan isn't choosing ESPN as his choice for breaking news or expert analysis.
I don't understand their business model either, but I think the regional aspect of sports was their reasoning. A lot of newspapers were laying off people around the same time ESPN began doing this. They had a pool of available talent to hire. A lot of people fired today jumped to ESPN to escape the sinking newspaper industry.

Stephen A is the biggest racist on espn
not really....most of the racial issues I've heard him speak on he seems pretty rational. I don't always agree with him but I don't think he comes off as racist at all.

It's not that there are more white males being fired than minorities and women, it's that it is clear the approach ESPN is taking is biased. R&K didn't toe the company line, so despite being massively successful, they were pushed out, while less popular and successful people get promoted (i.e. Hill).
People like Pablo Torre have little name recognition in the scheme of things compared to some of those let go, and would rather push a political agenda than talk sports, and is falling up because he is in line with what ESPN wants (liberal minority).
It is what it is, but to pretend that ESPN isn't pushing an agenda with their firings is naive.

This thread just reminds me of whey I barely watch ESPN anymore except to watch a live sporting event that I can't find elsewhere.

Because Schlumberger is about 85-90% white males. You seem to be the one failing statistics here
Sports media report, percentage represents Caucasians
Percentages represent males
ESPN is more diverse in appearance than most, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with the 80-90% number.

nope, maybe 60% worldwide
overseas the white males are far outnumbered by East Asians, Central Asians and Middle Easterners

I guess if you're not upset about white people getting fired, you're a democrat.
Look, the people melting are being idiots. ESPN has the right to run their company how the see fit.
But it is clear to me they are moving towards pandering towards a certain demographic, and certain political view

sec network is one of the few successful things espn has right now, so i wouldn't be surprised to see him get a promotion.

Jim Miller tweeted "value and versatility" being important for the future. ESPN is gonna try to do more with less people

Looks like brilliant timing on the move by Skip Bayless, Colin Cowherd, and others who left ESPN for FOXsports. I bet they're enjoying today.

with the reports saying Russillo will be taking on a smaller role, his radio show might be done. Either that or he wont be covering NBA anymore. In either scenario, I could easily see him leaving ESPN

Pride, you don't seem upset enough at the tragedy that has befallen our fellow white men and women. Did you vote Hillary?
