I used to hate McShay because he was entirely an ESPN creation.
Mel Kiper stays in his basement 360 days a year, only leaving during draft week. Occasionally he will pop on air from a remote location, or publish his updated draft rankings. Otherwise, 99% of his presence on ESPN was limited to draft weekend.
ESPN wanted another draft expert who was willing to make regular appearances on the network’s various programs and broadcasts. ESPN stumbled across McShay when they purchased Scouts, Inc. They designated him a draft expert despite his limited experience, and began to mold him into an on air personality.
He worked very hard at both his evaluations, as well as on his media persona. He developed into a legitimate talking head with some draft knowledge. Then he started drinking, or popping pills, maybe both, and his addictions began to impact his job.

Maria Taylor has been gone for the last two years

Todd McShay getting the axe is a big time shock to me.
He’s been a total mess the last two years. Looks extremely bloated and unhealthy. Kiper needs to be canned as well. No need for him and his awful hot takes with internet
If they were really serious about both cutting costs and improving the quality of the product? They could fire Kiper and promote Louis Riddick.
Give Riddick a media coanchor and a couple more actual talent evaluators from NFL organizations. You'll have a better draft day product.

Kiper, Berman, and Vitale are network sacred cows that are probably unfireable. Stephen A isn't a 4 decade lifer like them but just as unfireable because he does so much content.

Well it would get really bad if they got rid of her while a lawsuit is going on.

Creating buzz on social media is the name of the game. That's why they paid McAfee and why Perk and SAS aren't going anywhere.

They need to do a commercial walking through the halls with empty cubicles everywhere

Really surprised at this one. Who do they even have left to do SportsCenter LA? Stan and Linda Cohn?

This is ESPN layoffs, not NBC.

Dang, surprised by this one, she’s one of their good, young SC anchors.
