ESPN got taken today for fools

They showed a high school football game… it was IMG Academy from FL (everyone knows them) vs. an opponent from Ohio named Bishop Sycamore, who was supposedly an online charter school, played at the Hall of Fame game stadium in Canton.
ESPN had been promised that the OH team was super talented and would be competition for IMG. Instead, they looked literally like dudes thrown together to play football. IMG went up 30-0 in the first quarter, and the announcers started apologizing. They admitted they’d been had, and said that they couldn’t confirm that the Ohio teams players were actually recruits. You could hear their disgust on national television. The game itself was delayed by weather a few times.
IMG won 58-0 with a running clock for the whole second half.

Why would they believe some random Ohio team was equal to IMG?

How can you not reach out to a few assistants at some Big Ten schools and a Cincy or something and figure this out? Seems pretty easy

Why wouldn't they do their homework? Was it a game ESPN scheduled or is it one that was scheduled and because it was IMG they just assumed it was a legit team?
ESPN is run by idiots anyway.

Says a lot for espn recruiting rankings

How?
There’s 4 recruiting services that publicly list recruits. Including ESPN themselves.
Get roster, check against the list.

They couldn’t get a good roster from the OH school… the rumor is that they played with a lot of kids who should have graduated in ‘20 and ‘21, including transfers from junior college

IMG normally doesn't put gimme games on their schedule, but I guess since they played this at the Hall of Fame stadium, Sycamore has some tie-in for it. Sycamore went 0-6 last year and lost last week to some Archbishop Hoban, 38-0. I think last year was their first year as a school
They played this same Sycamore team last year and beat them 56-6, and make most every team they play look awful, so I don't know why the commentators would apologize. They beat Duncanville last year, 41-14, as well, a Duncanville team that nearly beat Quinn Ewers and Southlake in the 6A semifinals here in Texas.
It's IMG Academy, who normally has over 30 recruits in ESPN's top 300 list, they're going to do this to nearly anyone they face, much less some school that just started running last year.

Beaumont Central was in our district back in HS and they were forced to have a golf team every year for the district tournament. They'd get 5 guys with the promise of missing 2 days of school, have them pick some clubs out of a bucket, give them some x-out balls, and send them out.
They all shot double-par on every single hole (the maximum allowed) and 144 for their rounds. ESPN just put the football equivalent of Beaumont Central golf on television.

This is hilarious, granted even legit teams can’t stay with IMG

Apparently they fooled everyone.

Remember when Deion Sanders formed Prime Prep Academy? This is what that feels like?

The schedule-makers responsible for the game, Paragon Marketing Group, reportedly told Awful Announcing they were not aware Bishop Sycamore played Friday and would have canceled the game if they were aware, so ESPN might not have been the only entity duped here.
We're also not talking about a normal high school team, as Bishop Sycamore is apparently an online-only charter school with a football program not affiliated with the Ohio High School Athletic Association that played its first season last year.
If all of this is true, if Bishop Sycamore really lied to ESPN about its roster so it could play its second game in three days against a school of athletic monsters for the sole purpose of getting on television, then there are plenty of ways to describe this situation. Incredible. Ridiculous. Bizarre. But most of all, outrageously dangerous.

Did Bishop Sycamore not have a longer snapper?
Their punts were just shotgun snaps the the starting QB who would then try to get the punt off. I saw them do it on their own 15 and IMG damn near beat the ball to the QB(resulted in a safety). It looked like NFL players lining up against a random selection of MSBers.

I just watched some of the replay and they actually made a few nice tackles on defense

Here’s the kicker, this Bishop Sycamore team played a game two days ago, just a wild story

So it was a game between two fake high schools.
