ESPN later got called out for having a racial bias in their reporting of NFL head coaching firings when they noted that Doug Marrone and Adam Gase had “parted ways” with their teams while black head coach Anthony Lynn was “fired” by the Chargers.

If it's mutual, you parted ways.

If you came in and they had pink sheet ready, you were fired.

Like to more about their terminations. And frick anyone who thinks that is racially bias.

I look forward to their apology for offending me, and everyone around me for this egregious act of racism.

All three are from different sources right? One from the team, one from schefter, and one from schefter via a source. Isn’t it just likely that the way these three sources reported it happened to be that way?

They kinda have a point. It’s not racist or anything but it’s weird they’d word them all differently.

But was it really mutual in the cases of Gase and Marrone?

I'm all for fighting against racism but some take it too far putting race in everything...I've seen many times where white coaches were fired.

If the Jets and Jags did "fire" their coaches instead of a mutual parting of ways and Lynn was fired then they have a point. There is a difference between being not renewed, fired, and a mutual parting of ways. No one really says you're fired these days anyways. From stocking shelves to being a CEO it's "termination", "let go" "mutual parting of ways", "you're not working out" "you haven't met expectations" "we're going in a different direction" and "there's no work for you now"

ESPN needs to do their journalist homework and needs to make sure that a parting of ways really did happen versus a firing. It's basic journalism, but no one really expects journalism in sports.

I agree. I opened this thread expecting to laugh at the silliness, but it was odd to be so kind in the first two examples as opposed to the last.

It's not weird if the "parting of ways" was a negotiated buyout and settlement of the contract, and the "firing" was not. Both can happen, and are different ways to terminate someone depending on their willingness to negotiate the termination.

This story can go ahead and die now

The NFL regular season is over, which means head coach hiring-and-firing season is off and running. The Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions all fired their coaches during the season, and the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers now have joined them.

After months of intense speculation and fan unrest, the New York Jets finally put an end to the Adam Gase era, firing the coach Sunday night after only two seasons.

The Falcons started 0-5 before bringing the Quinn era to an end, and they also fired general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Quinn was in his sixth season
