Guard D.J. Smith made it a clean sweep Friday when he became the fifth member of the Robert Morris starting lineup to announce plans to enter the transfer portal, verbalcommits.com reported.

Smith joins former RMU teammates Kam Woods, Alvaro Folgueiras, Amarion Dickerson and Josh Omojafo, all of whom have decided to leave the team within a week of its loss in the NCAA Tournament.

A 6-foot junior, Smith is seeking to join his fourth team in five seasons after spending two at Little Rock and one at Bowling Green.

Overall, six players have announced plans to leave the team, including reserve forward Antallah Sandlin’El.

At what point does the blame fall on Robert Morris and similar schools for refusing to pay their players competitive rates and on the fans of said schools for not donating sufficient funds to maintain coffers?

Isn't this pretty common for many teams? I know Indiana and WVU entire roster went to the portal. Coaching changes caused it for them but there are other teams without coaching changes that have most of the players in the portal.

Robert Morris is basically a community college in a grocery store parking lot. I'd be shocked if the program itself is making any money at all

Bro. Less prominent schools are less likely to have significant number of wealthy donors and therefore cant likely keep up.

This is every mid major with good players.

It's sad that it's a bidding war for players

Bobby Morris uses this as a recruiting tool to get the next wave of talent. They started doing it in the grad transfer era, pushing their players to graduate in 3 years so they can transfer as a sr.
It must be working, they seem to be a March staple
