What do they get for beating Georgia?
History, recognition as the best team that didn’t get their shot. Far more notoriety than a traditional national title winner.
I can’t tell you who won the natty in 2004, I remember that Auburn got fricked out of it though.

The truth is a lot of FSU fans were relieved at the opt outs because a full strength FSU, Jordan Travis included, still loses by 20 against Georgia. This allowed for a convenient, parroted excuse.
Bama played in a “meaningless” bowl game 365 days ago. The #1, #3, and #12 picks in the draft suited up and played 4 quarters. FSU is a soft limp dick of a program with a fanbase that was thrilled at the opt outs so they could have an excuse instead of having to own the fact they didn’t belong. Your football culture needs work when you have two first round picks and 15+ kids opt out of a game against an SEC juggernaut. I’d be ashamed if I were an FSU fan. Y’all got exactly what you wanted though. A built in excuse instead of having to look reality in the eye.

Boo hoo. You completely erase any doubt when you know show for your next game. They tried to quit in the ACC championship game but Louisville wouldn’t let them. That was a horrific game that showed they were not the same team and capable of competing with the real top 4.
