Draymond Green ‘Wants And Believes’ He Should Get A Max Extension From The Warriors

Mr. Triple Single wants his money

The Golden State Warriors have been willing to spend big over the years if it means they’re able to compete for a championship. It’s worked out pretty well for them, because even though they’ve routinely boasted some of the most expensive rosters in the history of the NBA, the Warriors have won four of the last eight championships and made it to the NBA Finals an additional two times.
The issue is that between the team’s veteran core and their newer, younger players who have blossomed into important players for the future, things have the potential to get more expensive than ever in the not too distant future. While Steph Curry is locked in through the 2025-26 season, Golden State has a number of gigantic decisions to make sooner rather than later.
One of those revolves around Draymond Green, who is set to make $25.8 million next season and has a player option worth $27.6 million the year after. Per Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, the 32-year-old do-everything forward “wants and believes” that he should get a 4-year max extension, and is eligible to sign one worth $138.4 million starting on Aug. 3. The issue, however, is that the Warriors don’t seem keen to offer him one.
quote:
All indications, though, are that the Warriors have no plans to offer Green a maximum extension, and there isn’t any current traction on any type of extension. The typical pattern of this Golden State front office is to extend with one year remaining. Even Stephen Curry waited until one year remained before signing his max extension last offseason. Green has two years remaining on the maximum extension he signed in 2019. While he could opt out a year earlier, the Warriors’ current preference is to talk extension with Green next summer.
quote:
The pair went on to report that Green is “willing to explore his outside options to get the kind of contract he wants,” and while the team would take that risk, there are concerns about how Curry would react to Green potentially leaving “because the team didn’t want to pay him.” Should Green decline his player option and sign a 4-year deal for any amount with the Warriors next summer, the final year of his deal would take place during the 2026-27 campaign.

Dray’s good but it would take a really stupid front office to make him an offer that large.
Which means the Lakers, Knicks, and Kings will be on speed dial.

Please Draymond, hold your breath until they come through with the max.

Green being the leader and spearheading the D on one of these young and upcoming teams would be awfully scary. This is a guy that contributes to winning at an elite level.

7-7-7....yeah, he is a real difference maker

He would be 34 when that hypothetical Max kicks in. What team is giving that one out?
34-38 year old Dray getting 35MM per year

In entirely related news, I believe and want every hot Instagram model should sleep with me, I should be paid a billion dollars a year to work 5 hours a month, etc.

Yeah. But he is in the later stages of his career and the team is starting to turn over. I can't see any of the original 3 getting a next contract from the Warriors. Let Thompson and Green expire in 2 years. Then they might get a break from the tax.
There is talk that Wiggins might take less money in a new extension to make sure he stays. Something like 30M a year..

Which is why no one thinks 2 years and 54 million is an absurd deal for him.
But he wants 4/135 on top of that

Let's just call it the Dennis Schroder syndrome and move on.

What The heck has Steph won when not surrounded by 2 or 3 other hall of famers?
He didn’t even make the playoffs the one year he only had 1 hall of famer as a teammate.
Of course that goes for green too but these guys are as much a tandem as any I can remember. The 2 man game between them is a thing of beauty.

What has Harden won, period, even with HOF guys around him?
They give rings for a second round exit?

has never had 2 healthy, in their prime, future hall of fame teammates.
Considering Steph has only won title with that much help, and lost when he had any less, you can see it is not an apples to apples comparison.
You can’t compare a guy who played with 3 hall of famers in their prime to a guy who has played with 1 at a time, at most.

It’s the summer 2022 and we are still talking about the flawed D’Antoni Rockets.
The current Rockets are a more interesting discussion.

KD has only won titles when pair with 3 other hall of famers in their prime. the same 3 who won titles both before and after him. KD still has a lot to prove, to say the least. He would certainly benefit from having Green on his squad to lead. KD doesn’t know how.

If the officials would do their job correctly & give him that 2nd technical foul for the ejection from the 2nd quarter on of every game he plays in then he wouldn’t even be in position to make this insane argument.

More or less to prove than a guy whose only finals appearance was as a bench guy as a young player?
Arguing that Durant or others are or aren’t great would be doable if you didn’t make excuses for why Harden constantly comes up short.
And he has pretty much whenever he had more than a bench role, which always gets blamed on a lack of help as opposed to a lack of conditioning or bad strategy.

Has outplayed some of the greatest players of all time in recent playoff series only to not get the amount of the help that his super star counterparts on the opposition have had.
