Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green devoted almost the entirety of his postgame news conference Monday night to calling out the NBA's treatment of its players, while citing various examples of double standards around the league

quote:

Green's unprompted, three-minute tirade came on the heels of the Cleveland Cavaliers -- Golden State's opponent on Monday -- deciding to sit center Andre Drummond until they find a trade to make.

quote:

"I would like to talk about something that's really bothering me," Green said after the Warriors' 129-98 win. "And it's the treatment of players in this league. To watch Andre Drummond, before the game, sit on the sidelines, then go to the back, and to come out in street clothes because a team is going to trade him, it's bulls---."

quote:

Green continued, "Because when James Harden asked for a trade, and essentially dogged it, no one's going to fight back that James was dogging it his last days in Houston, but he was castrated for wanting to go to a different team. Everybody destroyed that man. And yet a team can come out and say, 'Oh, we want to trade a guy,' and then that guy has to go sit, and if he doesn't stay professional, then he's a cancer. And he's not good in someone's locker room, and he's the issue."

quote:

"And we're seeing situations of Harrison Barnes getting pulled off the bench," Green said. "Or DeMarcus Cousins finding out he's traded in an interview after the All-Star Game, and we continue to let this happen. But I got fined for stating my opinion on what I thought should happen with another player, but teams can come out and continue to say, 'Oh, we're trading guys, we're not playing you.' And yet we're to stay professional."

quote:

"At some point, as players, we need to be treated with the same respect," Green said. "And have the same rights that the team can have. Because as a player, you're the worst person in the world when you want a different situation. But a team can say they're trading you. And that man is to stay in shape, he is to stay professional. And if not, his career is on the line. At some point, this league has to protect the players from embarrassment like that."

Draymond Green's assist totals the last seven games: 15, 15, 10, 11, 11, 8, 15 and counting tonight.

one of the great playmakers in the nba today. And also one of the great defenders. one of my favorite players for sure.

You get paid generational wealth to play a game. Shut the frick up.

Players who intentionally submarine their team's chances of winning are pieces of shite.

So he’s mad that a team can decide they want to move on so the player gets paid to sit there and do nothing?

That’s a tough life. I wish I had it so tough.

Does that happen though? Or does the media report the trades? How many times is Woj or Shams reporting on trades before the teams even announce?

Draymond should be upset with the media not the teams. The same goes for the Harden ordeal. The media and fans ripped him and the team traded Harden to exactly where he wanted to go.

Guess it's still not enough for Draymond.

Stop complaining Green

As Don Draper said,

I don't get it. If they force Drummond out there while trying to deal him and he blows a knee, then Draymond would probably complain Andre was playing meaningless minutes.

Don't care.
But fans, generally speaking, side with owners. And it's pretty strange.

Or do they just side with their team who is represented by the owner over the player?

I think most on this board would say I'm pro-player or probably even a player "apologist" if you will.

But this is dumb.

Players get traded, that's part of the deal if you decide to play in the NBA, you know that going into it, it's that simple.

If you don't want to be stuck in some place and want the ability to move, then don't sign 4 and 5 year contracts. Players want the best of both worlds. They want to get the long term security contract, but also to be able to move freely to any team they want while under contract. Obviously some players are forcing moves, but in general, it doesn't work like that. You sign a 4 year deal, and that's that. You're on that team for 4 years. Yes that team can trade you and no you can't up and decide to play elsewhere because you signed the 4 year contract. Sign a 1 year deal, and you can change teams every year if you want.

This doesnt even make any sense. They employ you. There is a difference. You want to start paying your team?
