expand the P4 to have 16 teams each

Expand?

SEC 16
ACC 17
B12 16
B1G 18

Not even accounting for Notre Dame.

I’m not sure what the argument here is…give playoff spots away for charity to lesser teams so they can get their faces beat in?

Let the G5 still qualify for the big CFP if and only if it has a team ranked in the top 12. But we can also have a separate playoff for the G5.

No, because college football is stupid. If the price is right, any school can buy good players

That’s exactly what I said in my first posts, with the added criteria that they have to win their conference.

But it may make sense to create a G5 playoff and a separate P$ playoff.

What's stopping them? Why haven't they already done this? The playoff is a media driven entity. The NCAA has nothing to do with it. All they need is a network and some shitty bowl games to make it work.

My guess is it won't sell and the athletic departments can't afford the costs because if it was viable we would already have the GIT.

Right. We're on the same page. Neither Tulane nor JMU would have qualified for the CFP this year under our criteria.

What it proves is the super conference is fricking stupid, if you left the conferences alone the top 5 conference winners would be Indiana UGA Oregon 1 of TTU/A&M/OU and probably Tulane since thenACC is a shite show

If you really left them alone other than promoting a few good mid majors, you'd have Indiana (B1G), UGA (SEC), Oregon (PAC), TT (SWC), Oklahoma (Big Eight), Miami (Big East), with the ACC left out because Duke is 7-5 and Tulane out because they have two losses and are outside the top 12.

JMU and Tulane are better teams than we are seeing today. They are both playing top 10 teams on the road in late December after playing 13 games. It's an impossible situation.

"These teams deserve to be in the playoff, but it's not fair to make them actually play playoff games."

Got it.

like those old Utah, Boise, and UCF teams

Today’s rules (or lack thereof) will prevent those types of G5 teams from ever accumulating enough talent to seriously compete

JMU and Tulane would not have made the CFP this year under my criteria

Just make it if you’re ranked in the Top 12 they get in, no autobids. If not, they go to the G5 tournament.

But even then, the past years of a UCF, Boise State, etc going 12-0 and actually hanging with a top 10 team is probably gone. NIL and losing their talent every year to P4 has ruined that. Any coaches worth a shot are coaching P4 the next year and probably taking their 2-star they developed into a 4-star with them.

People (Reddit, X) act like rest of FBS owes the G5 something and they should expand to 16 or 24 so every single 9 conf champions make it. This isn’t a league, parity is a pipe dream, and all conferences aren’t created equal. Eventually, money will win out because I bet some Turner Broadcasting executives are not happy right about now.

The only people actually against seeing Ole Miss-ND and BYU-Oregon instead of the slop we got are G5 fans and ignorants who actually think that JMU getting steamrolled in a game they had no prayer of winning is somehow “fair” because they “deserved” it.

If anything, this year has proven we need LESS teams not more. I’m sure we’ll get more though and eventually a 4-loss champion that rested star players in a week 13 rivalry game and would have been Outback Bowl champs at best in 2013.
