Officially, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't an agreement to not put people on the banned list in. It's not like the sports writers or Veteran's committee had some special insight to the situation.

1 There is no evidence or hint of any secret agreement. He was on ballots just never got enough votes.

2 Writers and ex players who traveled on the same trains and stayed in the same hotels on road trips as the team, have way more insight than posters on a message board 97 years after the fact.

Do you think that understanding the "eight men out" version of history has now been disputed or disproven should be considered? Conventional wisdom can be simply wrong. People can be unpopular for unfair reasons. The movie Amadeus made Salieri out to be a lot of things to which he probably had no resemblance.

As an aside it was on this date in 1978 that his 44 game hitting streak came to an end.Longest in NL history.Gene Garber struck him out to end the game.

Which is evidence that there was some agreement.

And the seven guys he was accused with stated he had nothing to do with it. And he was acquitted in a court of any wrongdoing.

Far more evidence shows he wasn't involved.

On the basis of his Cincinnati reference avatar pic I wonder if he's against Joe out of spite - because of Pete.

Pete Rose arguably the best hitter of all time

I'd love to hear how he is arguably better than Ruth, Williams, Bonds, Musial, Gehrig, Mantle, Mays, etc etc.

His career OPS+ of 118 is tied for 418th all time. His career OPS of .784 is good for 571st all time.

Not even looking at the all time greats, he doesn't even stack up to a guy like Vlad. Vlad had a career slash line of .318/.379/.553. His 162 game average was 34 HRs and 14 SB. Rose had a career slash line of .303/.375/.409. His 162 game average was 7 HR and 9 SB. I know who I would rather have in my lineup.

Pete lied about it for years and years before finally coming clean. He is a slime ball. Let him have his fun in Vegas but not Cooperstown.

Pete speaking at the podium during a HoF induction ceremony would be a doozy, I bet.

He'd likely just slime an innocent man all over again (Giamatti) and pile on another ton of excuses for his actions.

Did gambling on games help him get 4000 hits? If you're a fan of baseball he is the hit King and that should be respected

Entrance into the Baseball HoF isn't a requirement to recognize Rose as the Hit King. Nor is it a requirement to respect that achievement.

If all he did was bet on his team to win, then the integrity of the game should not be in question.

You're joking right?

You can't see how even betting on your own team might have an effect on how a manager manages a game?

Like maybe putting the success of his bet before the health of his players?

I'm willing to listen to this argument. Anyone have a stat on average player days on the DL for his teams versus league average?
